Split screen has featured in every Call of Duty title since Call of Duty 2 allowing players to team up on the battlefield using just one console. But is the feature returning in MW2?
Whether it is to play alongside each other in multiplayer or even to 1 vs. 1 in a private match, playing on one screen can be a lot of fun!
MW2 features three separate modes in Multiplayer, Spec Ops and Campaign so fans will be eager to know if they can play together locally!

Can You Play Split Screen in MW2 Multiplayer?
The only current method to play MW2 multiplayer split screen is by playing in a private match.
Online Multiplayer does not allow you to play with a split screen.
Players attempting to play the following modes are being told the Quick Play game modes do not support split screen:
- Team Deathmatch
- Free-For-All
- Domination
- Search & Destroy
- Headquarters
- Kill Confirmed
- Hardpoint
- Knock Out
- Ground War
- Invasion
It is not yet clear if this message is an error as the Quick Play modes do not display a warning message before you search for a game. Whereas, the following two modes make clear that split screen is not supported.
- 3rd Person Moshpit
- Prisoner Rescue
How To Play Split-Screen in MW2 Multiplayer
To play split screen in MW2:
- Connect secondary input device to console – Controller or Keyboard and Mouse
- Follow the prompt in the top right corner to connect device to MW2
- Secondary user will then be asked to login into an Activision account
- Login or create a new account as required
- You can now play split screen
Can You Play Split-Screen Without Two Activision Accounts?
No, you will need to have two Activision accounts in order to play split screen. Once you have connected the controller you will not be given an option to play as a guest.
If you do not have a secondary Activision account you can set one up on Activision’s Sign Up page!
Can You Play Split Screen in Spec Ops MW2?
Unfortunately for those hoping to play Spec Ops with a friend or family member on the same screen, you will not be able to do so.
You will be prompted with a message saying each mission is “unavailable to play when a split screen player is connected”.
Fans will also be disappointed to find that there is no split screen in the Campaign. However, you may want to know can you play MW2’s Campaign in Co-Op?
