Some COD Zombies fans believe that Treyarch just dropped a new Zombies Chronicles 2 tease in a Black Ops 6 store bundle, but here’s why that’s probably not the case.
For those unaware, Zombies Chronicles was a DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 that offered eight completely remade Zombies maps from the series’ past.
The maps: Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa, Kino der Toten, Ascension, Shangri-La, Moon, and Origins, all featured upgraded visuals and new Black Ops 3 mechanics, but were otherwise faithful renditions of the beloved maps.
Zombies Chronicles is still highly popular to this day, which is why Black Ops 3 still reports thousands of players each day over on SteamCharts. But while Zombies Chronicles 2 has been heavily requested for many years, we don’t believe that Treyarch is teasing its return.
Why Fans Think Zombies Chronicles 2 Is Being Teased
A new skin for Weaver in the Mastercraft: Idead Tracer Pack bundle that just dropped in the COD Store has been seen as hinting at an upcoming Zombies Chronicles 2 DLC.
This is due to the Zombies-themed skin sporting a number of patches inspired by classic round-based maps on its left shoulder.
The maps featured on the Operator skin are the following:
- Der Eisendrache
- Shangri-La
- Shi No Numa
- TranZit
- Der Riese
- Kino der Toten
- Moon
- Buried
Of course, it’s easy to note that there are eight maps and assume that a second Zombies Chronicles is on the way, which is why we don’t blame the fanbase for its excitement.
Why We Don’t Think It’s Likely
However, we think it’s important to note that four of those eight maps previously featured in the original Zombies Chronicles, which makes this line-up being the map roster for an unconfirmed sequel rather unlikely.
What’s more, we even got another version of Shi No Numa in Call of Duty: Vanguard just a few years ago, making it even less likely that we’d visit the map yet again already.
On top of that, the upcoming map Citadelle des Morts appears to be heavily influenced by Der Eisendrache, which we’d imagine would have Treyarch thinking twice about including both maps in Black Ops 6’s limited roster.
That said, it’s been nine years since Black Ops 3’s release, and given that these maps are among the series’ most popular, it’s possible that Treyarch sees them as a DLC seller.
Personally though, we’ve already made our list of the maps we need to see in a potential Zombies Chronicles 2.
Interestingly, it’s not just Zombies Chronicles 2 that fans believe the new Weaver skin is hinting at. In fact, the entire Idead Tracer Pack bundle appears to be teasing Black Ops 6 Zombies’ next Perk.
And on that theory, we actually agree with the fans.
