The Legend of Zelda TOTK will receive no DLC content, according to producer Eiji Aonuma who recently commented on what’s next for the series.

Like Breath of the Wild before it, Tears of the Kingdom has been a massive success, both in the eyes of the players and commercially.

Our return to the land of Hyrule had everything players were wanting – and it seems that for the game’s developer, that’s enough.

Zelda TOTK Will Not Get DLC

In a new interview with Japanese news site Famitsu, The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma confirms that no DLC is coming to Zelda: TOTK.

When discussing what’s next for Zelda, whether that’s new content or a sequel title, director Hidemaro Fujibayashi stated that the team is already thinking of what the ‘next fun experience’ will be, but they’re unsure what form that will take at this point in time.

Aonuma then seemingly put the final nail of the coffin that was Zelda TOTK DLC hope with the following statement:

“There are no plans to release additional content this time, but that’s because I feel like we’ve done everything we can to create fun in that world.”

The Zelda TOTK producer went on to say that Tears of the Kingdom was made as a sequel because there was still something to explore in BOTW’s version of Hyrule. But this might not spell the end of the Breath of the Wild saga.

“If a new reason arises, we might return to the same world again,” Aonuma teases. “Whether it’s a sequel or a new work, I think it’s going to be a completely new game, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.”

We’re certain that a lot of fans will be happy to hear that TOTK might not be the last we see of this Hyrule. But it sounds like Zelda TOTK DLC is most certainly off the cards.

Perhaps we should have seen this coming. After all, Breath of the Wild was selling its expansion pass prior to the game even launching.

BOTW DLC Packs

BOTW’s expansions consisted of two DLC Packs which added a new Cave of Trials challenge, Hard Mode, a new original story expansion, a dungeon, and more to the game.

Eventually, ideas for DLC to the Switch launch title got so big that it ended up leading to the creation of Tears of the Kingdom! Now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the team has in store for the future of The Legend of Zelda franchise.
