Bad news for those struggling to get their hands on a next-gen console, as the Xbox Series X/S will be in short supply until April 2021.
Right from the pre-order launch date, it's never been easy to get hold of an Xbox Series X/S. With high demand leading to many users being left without the powerful new hardware, gamers are still desperate to find their new Xbox.
In the lead up to Christmas, there are sure to be even more anxious consumers trying to secure a new device for the holidays. But, according to Microsoft, demand is far outweighing supply.
Xbox Series X/S in Short Supply Until April
In Microsoft's new claims, the company announces that the Xbox Series X/S supply problems are not about to subside. Xbox Chief Financial Officer Tim Stuart spoke recently at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment conference regarding Xbox Series X/S stock.
"I think we’ll continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter, so Microsoft’s Q3, calendar Q1," Stuart predicted. "And then when we get to Q4, all of our supply chain continuing to go full speed heading into kind of the pre-summer months."
It sounds like Microsoft is busy trying to put more Xbox Series X/S on store shelves. However, demand is high enough that any console arriving in retailers won't be remaining there for long.
The CFO confirms that the company will be cranking out supply in the next 4-6 months. However, it is only then that the supply levels are anticipated to be sufficient to meet demand.
PlayStation is currently having a similar problem meeting the demands of its consumers. As Phil Spencer alludes, the early days of the console war will likely go in favor of the company that can produce the most stock.
Don't Lose Hope for an Xbox in 2020 Just Yet
Xbox's Liz Hamren, Head of Platform Engineering and Hardware, claims that the company is working "tirelessly" with its partners to ensure there are enough consoles to go around. Hamren also encourages fans to check in individually with their local retailers.
Currently, gamers are having to rely on leaks to see when Xbox Series X/S stock will be available. If this continues, there are sure to be a lot of younger gamers left disappointed on Christmas.
Already, Amazon is delaying Xbox Series X/S pre-orders, with the company expected to get new stock in by New Year. If the world's biggest online retailer sees delays, you can bet that your local store is seeing them too.
But this delay does allow gamers to shop for a new 4K TV for their Xbox Series X/S. Not just any screen will do, so consumers have to be well aware of what they're buying.
