Bad news for all those who are yet to secure an Xbox Series X/S pre-order, as it looks like the stock shortage could last for months.
If you’re yet to get your hands on the Xbox Series X or Series S pre-order, you might struggle for a while. This comes after Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced that stock shortages could last “for a few months” after launch.
The next-gen console pre-orders first went live on September 22, 2020. Since then, there have been a couple of restocks here and there, but the console is still widely unavailable.
Now with launch just around the corner, gamers will have to bet on finding a store with stock at launch. If that proves impossible, it may well be several months before they can truly experience the next generation of Xbox gaming.
How Long Will Xbox Stock Shortage Last?
As for how long exactly the Xbox Series X/S stock shortage will last, we don’t know just yet. But Phil Spencer appears to have an idea.
Speaking on the Dropped Frames podcast, the Xbox Boss admitted that demand for the console would likely surpass supply into 2021.
“We know what our supply will look like basically for the rest of the year. We’re going to have more demand than we do supply,” Spencer states.
It’s certainly true that the launch period contains the most demanding months in a console’s lifespan. Even more so, seeing as we’re approaching the Holiday season.
“And I will apologize in advance to people for that,” Spencer continues. “We saw it with pre-orders, how much energy there was, and we were basically out [of stock] in a couple of hours, which is unfortunate.”
“I think we are going to live in that world for a few months. We’re going to have a lot more demand than we do supply.”
It’s a similar story to the ones those looking for the PlayStation 5 are hearing. This year, not everybody who wants a next-gen console is going to get one.
Even in the early months of 2021, it might still be impossible to get hold of Xbox Series X/S stock. Only time will tell exactly how hard it will be, however.
For the determined gamer, that hidden Xbox Series X/S stock is still out there. Some stores will be selling extra console stock at launch, and it’s only a matter of finding it first.
To help you manage this, here’s how Best Buy will be selling the Xbox Series X/S on launch day. This won’t be the only store with consoles on day one, but few others confirm the Xbox will be present, so the giant retailer is worth a shot.
It’s little surprise that the next-gen Xbox is so in-demand. All Xbox games will look and play better on the Xbox Series X/S, meaning that this is the ultimate way to get your gaming fix.
