Xbox Boss Addresses Series X/S Shortage & Limited Edition Consoles

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has addressed the ongoing shortage of Xbox Series X/S consoles as well as whether there will be any limited edition consoles soon.

The Xbox Series X/S came out at the end of last year and the demand for the consoles has been huge. Even over 6 months later, they are out of stock almost everywhere.

Huge chip shortages have been a disaster for Xbox and the other major consoles. PS5 and Nintendo Switch consoles have all been difficult to come by because there simply aren’t enough chips to make enough consoles.

However, in a new interview with IGN, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has addressed the stock shortages as well as the possibility of limited edition Xbox Series X consoles going on sale.

When Will Xbox Series X/S Stock Shortages End?

Previously, Microsoft predicted that the Xbox Series X/S shortage was about to end. However, Phil Spencer has now addressed the low supply of consoles directly.

In the interview he said:

“The chip shortage will be with us for a while and I contnue to apologise for that.”

“We are putting in huge orders for Xbox consoles .”

Therefore, it doesn’t look too promising if you want to secure a Series X/S any time soon, but with Xbox trying its best to alleviate the shortages, the consoles will hopefully become readily available in a few months.

Spencer also elaborated that the shortage isn’t just in the chips that help power the console but also simpler components like ethernet ports.

Despite this, it’s still possible to get a brand new Xbox if you’re up to date with all of the restocks. Here are all of the major Xbox Series X/S stock drops happening this week.

Will There Be Special Edition Xbox Series X Consoles?

The Xbox and Bethesda E3 Showcase announced loads of exclusive titles, including over 30 games coming to Game Pass. Surely, some of these games would get special edition consoles to coincide with their releases?

When asked about the possibility of limited edition consoles for upcoming Xbox games like Halo Infinite, Phil Spencer said:

“We don’t want to give up on our ability to do limited edition consoles… I’m not going to announce any of them today.”

Phil Spencer

The shortages could certainly impact the availability of special edition Xbox Series X consoles, but it sounds as if some will be on the way, which is great news for Xbox fans.

Additionally, Spencer announced more Halo infinite details in the interview too. This follows information on why Halo Infinite doesn’t have a release date yet.

Despite it not looking great at the moment, the stock shortages will hopefully end soon as Xbox is working its hardest to deliver more consoles. The shortage might even be over in time for a limited edition Halo Infinite Series X.
