Starfield is right around the corner, and players are wondering if Bethesda will be bringing back the fan-favorite feature of mods.
Mods are fan-made content that alters a video game in minor or major ways. They can completely change how a game looks, introduce new mechanics or characters, or even tweak gameplay mechanics.
Modding has been a staple of Bethesda games, officially since Morrowind, and has allowed for its games to continue their relevancy for a long time.
So, it’s understandable that fans are expecting mods to appear in the upcoming space adventure game. Below, we answer if there will be mods for Starfield on PC and Xbox.
Will Starfield Have Mods on Xbox?
Yes, it is very likely that Starfield will have mods on Xbox Series X/S at launch. While Bethesda have not officially confirmed mods on Xbox, the Starfield EULA on Steam references Creation Credits as a virtual currency.
Creation Credits are a part of the Creation Club modding feature that allows players to purchase mods on consoles. Their existence in Starfield would indicate that the feature will be on console as well as PC.

In the Skyrim: Special Edition, console players could download mods uploaded to the Creation Club by modders. Additionally, Skyrim: Anniversary Edition included pre-installed mods as part of the package.
However, it is worth noting that this has not been confirmed for the Xbox version of Starfield. Therefore, while it is possible that mods will be available on the console version at launch, it is not guaranteed.
Nevertheless, it seems highly likely that the Creation Club feature will come to Xbox eventually, if not at launch, and allow players to purchase mods uploaded by the community.
Will Starfield Have Mods on PC?
Yes, Starfield will have full mod support on PC like all of Bethesda’s previous games.
This was first confirmed by Todd Howard during a 2021 Reddit AMA, in which he reassured fans that Starfield would have mod support.
During the AMA, Howard, replying to a fan’s question, said that the “plan [is to] have full mod support like our previous games.”
He then went on to praise the modding community that has been adding or tweaking content to Bethesda’s extensive library of games for 20 years. He said in the AMA:
Our modding community has been with us for 20 years. We love what they do and hope to see more make a career out of it.”

In June 2023, Howard spoke on an episode of the Kinda Funny Games Xcast, in which he said that Starfield will be a “modder’s paradise.”
He then reiterated the importance of mods in their games, saying that it’s “part of our DNA” and that making implementing mods as easy as possible is an important aspect of Starfield.
This is certainly a big deal for the modding community, as Starfield is set to be Bethesda’s biggest game, with the potential to add even more content.
