Ever since Microsoft entered the acquisition stage with Activision, players have wondered if MW3 will be on Xbox Game Pass.
Game Pass is a service that Microsoft uses on many of the games made by their in house studios. This service gives players the opportunity to download those games as soon as they release.
Since Activision/Blizzard is on their way to becoming one of Microsoft’s studios, it would make sense that their games would end up on Game Pass. However the situation is actually more complicated than that.
Is MW3 Coming to Xbox Game Pass?
No, Modern Warfare 3 will not release on Game Pass when it launches on November 10, 2023. This is because Activision still has an ongoing deal with PlayStation that impedes this from happening.
However, this doesn’t mean that MW3 won’t eventually land on Game Pass in future. In documents from the UK CMA trial that was held to determine if the Activision/Blizzard acquisition would stand, Microsoft hinted at Call of Duty coming to Game Pass in 2025.
This is just information that Microsoft hinted at, and nothing is really concrete. One thing that you can count on, is that the Activision and Blizzard titles will eventually make their way to Game Pass. This is probably one of the most important aspects that Microsoft sought when they started the acquisition.
Phil Spencer also confirmed this bit in a statement he made earlier this year when speaking about the ongoing acquisition. Although, he didn’t confirm if Call of Duty specifically would arrive to Xbox Game Pass anytime soon.

Due to the ongoing legal battles that are looking to stop this acquisition, it could be a while before we get any official confirmation from Microsoft on the matter.
For now, all players will need to purchase MW3 at retail price if they wish to continue Task Force 141’s story as they fight against Makarov and the Konni Group.
