Will the next installment of the Call of Duty series, Black Ops 6, release on the last-gen PS4 and Xbox One in addition to current-gen consoles?

It’s been over 10 years since the PS4 and Xbox One were released, but these consoles are still being supported. This is despite the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X fast approaching the midpoint of their life cycles.

However, last-gen support is bound to end soon as the majority of gamers upgrade to current-gen consoles.

This has Call of Duty fans wondering whether Black Ops 6 will be on both current and last-gen hardware. Or, is the series finally leaving the PS4 and Xbox One behind?

Will Black Ops 6 Release on PS4 & Xbox One?

Yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on both last-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One.

While Treyarch has not directly confirmed this, all of the leaks point toward this being the case. This includes the leaked editions and pre-order bonuses for Black Ops 6, as well as there being a ‘cross-gen bundle’ found in the Call of Duty launcher files.

Additionally, Game Pass subscribers on Xbox One will have the upcoming Call of Duty title available with their membership. Treyarch has already confirmed that Black Ops 6 will launch on Game Pass!

Even though it may have limited Black Ops 6’s graphics, releasing it on both current and last-gen consoles makes sense. Slightly more gamers are playing on PS4 than PS5 each month, even in 2024, so releasing the game on both generations doubles the potential sales.

Of course, playing Black Ops 6 on current hardware will still give the best experience, as the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game will almost certainly have improved graphics and frame rate.

However, the PS4 and Xbox One versions should run smoothly, but with less detail and a lower frame rate.

Stay tuned for more details about the last-gen versions of Black Ops 6. Hopefully, we will get official confirmation, alongside some performance details, at the upcoming Black Ops 6 Direct presentation.
