The developer of Call of Duty 2023 has already been revealed – here’s who is making MW3 and everything we know about them.

Activision has finally announced that MW3 (AKA Modern Warfare 3) will be our Call of Duty 2023 title, and the publisher has revealed select few details about the upcoming game so far.

However, one of the things we can now confirm is who is making MW3, with the full development team revealed before even our first look at gameplay dropped.

Who Is Making MW3?

Call of Duty MW3 (2023) is developed primarily by Sledgehammer Games, but also receives development support from Treyarch, Infinity Ward, Beenox, Raven Software, High Moon Studios, and Demonware.

It appears that Activision is pulling in the whole team to help with making sure MW3 is ready, which makes sense if leaks were true and the game was initially going to be a Year Two expansion to MW2.

Sledgehammer Games is most recently known for developing Call of Duty Vanguard, as well as WWII and Advanced Warfare.

Interestingly the original Modern Warfare 3 (2011) was the first COD game developed in part by Sledgehammer, who assisted Infinity Ward in the game’s production.

Since working on MW3, Sledgehammer Games has been responsible for the following projects:

  • Advanced Warfare (2014) – Lead Developer
  • WWII (2017) – Lead Developer
  • Modern Warfare (2019) – Assisting Infinity Ward
  • Black Ops Cold War (2020) – Assisting Treyarch
  • Vanguard (2021) – Lead Developer
  • Modern Warfare 2 (2022) – Assisting Infinity Ward

MW3 Developer List

Interestingly, some fans have taken Treyarch’s inclusion on this list as confirmation that Zombies will be coming to MW3.

The thinking being, we suppose, that Treyarch most recently helped out Vanguard by developing the WW2 title’s Zombies mode.

And while rumors of an ‘Outbreak 2.0’ mode in MW3 are still floating around, we shouldn’t forget that Treyarch also tends to assist with Ranked modes in Call of Duty titles too.
