Where Is the Joker in Gotham Knights?

Gotham Knights is finally here but fans are still trying to work out what happened to the Joker. Here’s everything we know:

At the beginning of Gotham Knights, as many fans will know from the title’s marketing, we find out that Batman is dead. The caped vigilante has finally met his end, and it’s down to Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Batgirl to be Gotham’s new protectors.

Although the Dark Knight himself is out of action, we do get to interact with many notable Batman villains throughout the game’s story. But there’s one major antagonist that appears to be missing in action in all the promos.

Given that Gotham Knights offers an all-new story, separate from that of the Arkham series, fans are hungry to hear what’s up with the Joker in this new universe.

And finally, we have some answers.

Is the Joker in Gotham Knights?

No, the Joker never makes an appearance in Gotham Knights, although there are hints at his character having influenced past events. For instance, the character of Red Hood (AKA Jason Todd) was canonically killed by the Joker back when he was Robin, before the events of Gotham Knights.

Of course, Jason Todd was revived in the Lazarus Pit, allowing him to become Red Hood shortly afterward.

We also learn that around this time, Harley Quinn split from the Clown Prince of Crime, becoming reformed and even working alongside the government in a not-so-subtle hint at the upcoming Suicide Squad game.

One thing’s for sure, Gotham Knights Creative Director Patrick Redding has confirmed that the Joker is not in the game at all. So fans of the iconic villain will need to wait for a potential sequel to Gotham Knights for another chance at spotting the popular antagonist.

So while everyone’s favorite clown isn’t present in the game, we can’t confirm whether or not he’s actually alive or dead. Unlike the Batman himself, whose fate we finally have closure on.
