What to Expect for Call of Duty & Warzone After Microsoft Acquisition

Here’s what you can expect from Call of Duty and Warzone following Microsoft’s huge acquisition of Activision.

Call of Duty is one of the most popular and successful video game franchises of all time, with every new entry selling millions of copies. However, players now have lots of questions about the future of the series.

Microsoft’s $70 billion purchase of Activision means that it now owns Call of Duty alongside loads of other huge games.

However, with Call of Duty now being under Xbox’s increasingly large umbrella, fans have a lot of questions about the future of the series. Here’s what to expect in the future of COD and Warzone under Microsoft.

But first, in the immediate future, players are asking an important question. Will Modern Warfare 2 be Xbox exclusive?

What’s in Store for Call of Duty & Warzone Under Microsoft?

In the short term future, very little will change with Call of Duty as Microsoft won’t complete its purchase of Activision until June 2023. This is both a good thing and a bad thing.

PlayStation players will be happy that Xbox players won’t get any exclusive Call of Duty content or preferential treatment until the purchase is complete.

Call of Duty Vanguard has PlayStation exclusive content, but this relationship between Sony and Activision won’t continue under Microsoft ownership. In fact, we expect Xbox to get exclusive content in future COD titles once the takeover is completed.

However, Xbox players, in particular, will be disappointed that the game-breaking Warzone Series X/S issues will probably continue. This is certainly something Microsoft would want to fix, but it can’t until Activision is part of the company.

Additionally, the question of Xbox exclusivity comes into the equation.

UPDATE: PlayStation Responds – Will The Call of Duty Series Stay On PS4 & PS5?

Luckily for PlayStation players, as the purchase won’t be complete until 2023, this means that the next two Call of Duty games, including the heavily-leaked Modern Warfare 2, should still be on PlayStation.

However, further in the future, anything could happen. Microsoft has said that some Activision games will still be on PlayStation, but others will be Xbox exclusive. Therefore, Call of Duty could end up being Xbox exclusive in a few years!

We expect that Warzone will stay multi-platform, but there is every chance that the mainline COD titles end up launching exclusively on Game Pass like Bethesda’s Starfield.

This would be the biggest name on the list of huge upcoming Xbox Game Pass titles.

Are you optimistic about the future of Call of Duty and Warzone under Microsoft? We imagine PlayStation and Xbox fans will have very different answers to this question!

Meanwhile, there’s some big news for the near future of COD. Find out the release date for Vanguard and Warzone Pacific Season 2!

The Microsoft will do a better job at 100%, look at the state now. We need future maps not stupid history, it's done, there are other plenty games for that. Future!!! Warzone has to be on PC as well, wasting money for consoles is a rip off, just buying another generation new console too have a performance, it's business. See, even emplyees still fighting and complaining, so Microsoft will do 100% job, otherwise people won't be paying and playing anymore. Nobody cares about Cold war pff even tho Vanguard trash, all for extra stupid money.

I'm excited for it to come to game pass soon, so I at least don't have to pay for the trash games that they publish sometimes.
