Warzone’s Ghosts of Verdansk Mode Punishes Camping With Fear Mechanic

Warzone’s Halloween-themed Ghosts of Verdansk mode is introducing a brand-new fear mechanic, here’s everything you need to know.

Warzone is about to get spooky with a revamped Halloween event. This time around, Raven Software has new surprises in store for players.

In fact, last years’ Halloween event was a roaring success, with many fans hoping that Zombie Royale would stay around as a permanent addition.

Therefore, Warzone players are expecting the new Halloween-themed event to inject some scares and some excitement back into the game.

Only today, players were given a trailer debuting the new ‘Ghosts of Verdansk’ game mode, and it looks to be taking players on a terrifying journey into the supernatural.

How Does Fear Work in Warzone ‘Ghosts of Verdansk’

One of the brand-new features coming with the ‘The Haunting’ Halloween event is the fear meter mechanic; And If you’re not careful, it will cause you to lose your head!

Firstly, once players jump into the ‘Ghosts of Verdansk’ game mode, they will notice a fear meter in the bottom left corner of the HUD.

Players will have to manage their fear level which starts at zero, and ensure that it never reaches 100%.

Worryingly, Raven Software has not yet revealed what happens when a player reaches 100% fear, but we’re sure you don’t want to find out…

However, If your fear meter exceeds 50%, you will start to experience creepy hallucinations.

We would hope that jumpscares aren’t included in this year’s update, as many Warzone players were scared to death during last years’ Halloween event.

However, fear does increase naturally over time, and is also triggered by certain events which we have listed below:

  • Being shot at, being hit by enemy Equipment, or having their Killstreaks in the area
  • Camping (AKA cowardice)
  • Seeing dead bodies or Ghosts
  • Having squadmates downed or eliminated

Luckily, players can decrease fear in Warzone’s ‘Ghosts of Verdansk’ event too. Here is a list of actions that will decrease player fear level:

  • Eliminating a player or Ghost
  • Reviving a squadmate
  • Completing a Contract
  • Remaining within Sacred Ground… so long as it stays intact

As you can see, Raven Software is rewarding aggressive play, whilst punishing cowardly players with frightening consequences!

Additionally, Sacred Ground offers players the chance to alleviate their fear level. However, you’ll have to fend off other players for control of the area.

If you’re excited to jump into ‘The Haunting’, you may have already noticed Halloween teases cropping up in certain maps.

There’s also the Frank the Rabbit (Donnie Darko) skin making its way to Warzone. Although, some hackers are already using the new Halloween-themed operators.

And with Warzone currently dealing with a huge number of hackers in Season 6, there’s also the worry this year’s event could be spoiled.
