Warzone File Size Reduction Coming At Last in Season 2 Reloaded

One of Warzone’s most highly-requested changes is finally coming as a file size reduction is confirmed for the Season 2 Reloaded update.

Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the most ridiculously bloated games of all time. Each new update is around 50 GB in size, and the title updates every few weeks at least.

Because of that, Warzone’s file size is getting to a point where it takes up the majority of some hard drives. In fact, if you’ve got Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on your PS5, there’s almost no room for any other games.

Thankfully, a long-awaited file size reduction for both Warzone and Modern Warfare is on the way. But of course, this is also coming alongside a new sizable update of its own.

Still though, this will be handy for the still extremely popular Modern Warfare just the same as Warzone. Unfortunately, Cold War isn’t getting the same treatment, perhaps because it’s on a different engine.

But it looks like Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard will be returning to Modern Warfare’s engine. Perhaps that means the game will soon be benefitting from Activision’s new file reduction technologies.

Warzone Getting a Smaller File Size in Season 2 Reloaded Update

Finally, the Warzone developers are taking action against the battle royale’s ever-growing file size, with a new reduction coming soon.

In the past, games like Fortnite were able to shrink their total file size, making the load more bearable on a gamer’s hard drive. Now, at long last, Warzone is following suit.

In the Season 2 Reloaded update, Warzone is shrinking its total file size dramatically, in what we hope is the first of many patches. After all, insane file size is likely the reason why Verdansk is leaving forever when the new Cold War Warzone map comes out.

How Small Is the New Warzone File Size?

According to a new Call of Duty blog, both Warzone and Modern Warfare are getting dramatic file size reductions in the latest update. Here’s how much space you’ll be saving when the new Season 2 Reloaded update finishes installing:

  • PlayStation 5: 10.9 GB (Warzone Only) / 30.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • PlayStation 4: 10.9 GB (Warzone Only) / 30.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S: 14.2 GB (Warzone Only) / 33.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • Xbox One: 14.2 GB (Warzone Only) / 33.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • PC: 11.8 GB (Warzone Only) / 30.6 GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

As you can see, there’s a noticeable decrease in file size, no matter your platform. In fact, you can probably install a new, more reasonably sized game in place of the wasted space.

But take care when installing the update as a new Cold War Season 2 Reloaded bug is resetting all player classes.

Thankfully, Activision is finally allowing this heavily-requested Gunsmith feature to become a reality. It’s just a shame that we had to wait so long for it to arrive.

Hopefully, we’re on track for Warzone Season 2 Reloaded to stop the game from being so unplayable. And in case you missed it, a reliable leaker promises that a new Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard Warzone map will be coming soon.
