Is Warzone Better on PS5 or Xbox Series X? Resolution, FPS, & More

Thanks to a new direct comparison video, we can see definitively which platform runs Warzone better – PS5 or Xbox Series X.

The console wars are still raging on social media, but at the end of the day we’re all just trying to enjoy gaming. When it comes to Warzone, there are a handful of ways to play the game – but which one runs best?

We imagine the answer isn’t Warzone’s mobile port which leaked recently.

Activision’s battle royale has its fair share of issues on all platforms, however. You may have noticed a new Kicked for Inactivity bug causing players to lose games, for example.

But now, thanks to an in-depth review by Digital Foundry, we can see the true differences between Warzone on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Warzone: PS5 vs Xbox Series X Differences Explained

In a new direct comparison, Digital Foundry points out the differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X when it comes to Warzone.

If you’re one of the few gamers who owns both a PS5 and Xbox Series X, you can now make an informed choice about which console to play Warzone on. Now that you can play Warzone on PS5 at 120 FPS, the console is finally catching up to Xbox.

After all, Xbox Series X players have been able to enjoy 120 FPS Warzone from Day One. But that’s not the only factor that sets apart the two consoles.

Now that PlayStation and Xbox users are on even footing, which console plays Warzone the best? Digital Foundry has a deep dive to discover the truth in its latest upload.

In the side-by-side comparison, Digital Foundry has both PS5 and Xbox Series X Warzone gameplay, with the title’s high-resolution texture packs installed.

When it comes to resolution, Xbox Series X/S has a little bit of an advantage. Digital Foundry reports that the Xbox renders Warzone at a minimum of 1920×2160 and a maximum reconstruction of up to 4K.

The PS5, on the other hand, renders in a resolution of somewhere between 1512p-1566p. The result is a notably blurrier image than that of the Xbox Series X.

However, despite the Xbox’s better visuals, the PS5 has “a commanding advantage” when it comes to performance. Digital Foundry reports that “for the vast majority of the experience, PS5 is mostly locked to 120 FPS.”

Unfortunately for Xbox players, the Series X does note a less stable performance, with 90-110 FPS being most common in-game. Of course, at higher frame rates a dip or two isn’t as severe as it is on last-gen consoles, but gamers will likely notice less smooth gameplay from time to time.

Notably though, if you have Variable Refresh Rate support running on a monitor that supports it, all stutter is gone completely. Using one of the new ‘designed for Xbox’ monitors, you can play Warzone at its very best, with high performance and graphical fidelity.

If using VRR isn’t an option on your Xbox Series X though, you’d be better off running Warzone on the PS5 or at 60Hz on Xbox.

Of course, all these factors are subject to change, if and when a proper next-gen Warzone patch launches for both consoles. It’s worth pointing out that Warzone’s massive WW2 map will reportedly feature planes, tanks, and more.

With that in mind, we’re definitely going to need the power of next-gen to run the game smoothly. Lately, a way to cheat in Warzone on console is becoming more popular too, causing some real concern about the future of the battle royale.

In fact, one of Warzone’s biggest streamers is already quitting the battle royale.
