If you’re wondering whether you need either PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold to play the free online multiplayer battle royale title, Warzone 2, you’re not alone.

While most online multiplayer titles do require a subscription to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold, some, surprisingly, do not.

Keep reading to learn all about whether Warzone requires you to have a subscription to either of these services.

Do You Need Xbox Live Gold for Warzone?

No, you do not need an Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to play Warzone or DMZ on Xbox. You can play Warzone 2 completely for free and do not need to pay to play online.

On Warzone 2’s Xbox Support page, it reads, “An Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Live Gold subscription is not necessary to play.”

This is because Warzone is a free-to-play game, and Xbox does not require users to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play free games.

Previously, Xbox users needed Xbox Live Gold to play free-to-play online games. However, this changed on April 21, 2021, when Microsoft announced Xbox Live Gold would no longer be required for free games.

Do You Need PlayStation Plus for Warzone?

No, you do not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play Warzone 2 or DMZ on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.

Just like on Xbox, Warzone is entirely free on PlayStation and, as a result, does not require a live membership to PlayStation Plus to be played online.

The majority of free-to-play online games do not require a PlayStation Plus membership. The original Warzone also does not require a subscription.

You do need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play MW2’s multiplayer mode. However, this is entirely separate from Warzone, and you don’t need to own MW2 to play Warzone.
