Warzone 2 Black Sites & Strongholds Explained

Warzone 2 has some intriguing new Black Sites and Strongholds to explore, each giving players a significant boost if they can clear them successfully.

It’s clear as day that Warzone 2.0 isn’t the same game that we’ve been playing for the last couple of years. Infinity Ward has made some huge changes that will keep the Battle Royale feeling fresh for years to come.

Two of the most important features in Warzone 2 are its Strongholds and Black Sites, heavily-defended locations that will be present around the map.

Learning what these AI-fortified locations have to offer is essential if you’re aiming for that Warzone Victory.

What Is a Stronghold in Warzone 2.0?

A Stronghold is a heavily-fortified enemy fortress filled with AI opponents around Al Mazrah. During each game of Warzone 2.0, several Strongholds will activate around the map.

Taking down a Stronghold means defeating the AI enemies within, and the first team to clear each location must also disarm a bomb within.

It’s worth the effort to seek out a Stronghold though, as doing so will grant you some incredible rewards.

All Stronghold Rewards

Squads that clear a Stronghold first and defuse its bomb will earn:

  • A Black Site Key to access an even more heavily-defended location.
  • A box that contains their Custom Loadout for free.
  • Rare and valuable loot.

Teams that visit that Stronghold later will be tasked with eliminating a specific number of defenders (AI or players) and will get only a Custom Loadout for their trouble.

But that’s not the only way to get your Custom Loadout in Warzone 2.0!

Where to Find a Stronghold in Warzone & DMZ

To find a Stronghold, players need to open their maps and look for the Stronghold icon shown below. Playes will get a notification that select Strongholds are open just before the first Warzone zone starts collapsing.

In DMZ, players will also need to find a Stronghold key to unlock one of the nearby Strongholds.

What Is a Black Site in Warzone 2.0?

A Black Site is a more dangerous form of Stronghold, only available to those who hold a Black Site key. Enemies in these locations are stronger and more numerous but players that clear them will get a permanent Weapon Blueprint as a reward!

What’s more, these locations offer up even rarer items to teams able to take them down.

All Black Site Rewards

Clearing a Black Site for the first time will grant all members of the squad a permanent Weapon Blueprint to use in their loadouts.

Activision promises an assortment of incredibly valuable items will also be waiting for players who can successfully take down these sites. We expect Specialist tokens, Self Revives, and powerful killstreaks could make an appearance.

How to Get a Black Site Key in Warzone 2.0

To get your hands on a Black Site Key in Warzone 2.0, squads must rush to take down an active Stronghold before any other team.

Each Stronghold will have one Black Site Key to grant the first team to clear it and defuse its bomb. The next team to clear that same Stronghold will not receive a Black Site Key.
