The lineup of launch titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 could be full of some amazing games – these are the ones we’d like to see the most!

A great console needs to launch with some excellent games to get off to a strong start. And with the Nintendo Switch 2 rumored for a March 2025 release date, development for its launch games must be well underway by this point.

Fortunately, Nintendo has a number of popular series featuring iconic characters that are overdue an entry, meaning that there could be an especially strong launch lineup for the Switch 2.

These are the top 5 games we’d like to see release alongside Nintendo’s next console!

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong

Donkey Kong hasn’t got a lot of love from Nintendo in recent years, with his only recent game being the re-release of Donkey Kong County: Tropical Freeze for the Switch back in 2018.

Therefore, the Switch 2’s launch would be a great time to bring back DK in a big way!

Rumors have suggested that a new Donkey Kong game has been in development for a while now. Despite this, there are varying reports about whether it’s a 2D title or a 3D adventure reminiscent of Donkey Kong 64.

Either type of game would be a welcome and likely addition to the Switch 2’s launch lineup.

Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing New Horizons Seaside Cliffs

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was bigger than anyone anticipated, thanks to it launching at just the right time. When plenty of the world was housebound in 2020, New Horizons gave everyone the opportunity to create their own island town and socialize with some friendly villagers.

This brought the Animal Crossing series to a whole new audience and has skyrocketed its popularity. While it has always been popular, it is now one of Nintendo’s biggest IPs!

Without a doubt, many fans of Animal Crossing would buy a Switch 2 purely to play the new entry in the series, and it is one of the most highly-requested launch titles for Nintendo’s next console.

We also believe that there is a reasonable chance that a new Animal Crossing arrives alongside the Switch 2. This is because it would be a sensible business move from Nintendo to get cozy gamers to adopt the new console straight away.

Mario Odyssey 2

Mario Odyssey New Donk City

Mario Odyssey was a must-have game for the Nintendo Switch and one of the best 3D Mario titles ever. Therefore, a sequel on the Switch 2 seems like a no-brainer.

It has also been over 6 years since Mario Odyssey, giving Nintendo plenty of time to develop a new game for its upcoming console.

We believe there’s a reasonable chance that Mario Odyssey 2, or a 3D Mario game, will be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. After all, Nintendo will want a game featuring its mascot on its new console as soon as possible.

Even if a new 3D Mario doesn’t arrive straight away, then there will almost certainly be one in a couple of years after the Switch 2 releases.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Pokemon Legends Z-A Logo

The newly-announced Pokemon Legends: Z-A will almost certainly arrive on the Switch 2. Making it a launch title would be huge for Nintendo and fans of the series alike.

The second Pokemon Legends title, very little has been revealed about Z-A so far. However, we already know that it’ll take place entirely in Lumiose City, and it’ll feature the return of Mega Evolution and the Legendary Zygarde!

Nintendo has already confirmed that it will release in 2025. Therefore, Legends: Z-A being a launch title for the Switch 2 is pretty likely, in our opinion.

We will almost certainly hear more about this upcoming Pokemon title later in the year, so, hopefully, we will get a release date then too!

Mario Kart 9

Mario Kart 8 - Mario, Yoshi and Bowser

Finally, the game we would most like to see launch with the Switch 2 is Mario Kart 9.

Almost everyone enjoys Mario Kart, and it’s the perfect couch multiplayer game (even if things can sometimes get very competitive)!

Although the final wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tracks only arrived in November 2023, it’s been a decade since the last brand-new game in the series. Therefore, we are well overdue for another entry.

We would also say that it’s very likely for a new Mario Kart to launch alongside the Switch 2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold over 60 million copies, and releasing the Switch 2 with a new Mario Kart would certainly get players to buy the new console!

Are there any other games you would like to see launch alongside the Switch 2? It seems like the release window lineup will be very strong, even if Zelda, Smash Bros. and Splatoon probably won’t be part of it!
