Third-person appears to be making a triumphant return in Call of Duty 2024 as a datamine of Treyarch’s upcoming game reveals it in the Perk list!
The original Modern Warfare 2 (2009) introduced the series’ first third-person mode, an over-the-shoulder view that offered a brand-new perspective on COD multiplayer.
Since then, the mode has only returned in MW3 (2011), COD Mobile, and the rebooted MW2 (2022). It also features in specific Warzone playlists and MWZ.
Now, it appears that third-person mode will be coming to all playlists in Treyarch’s Call of Duty 2024 – as a Perk that players can choose for their loadouts!
Third-Person Perk Leaks
In a series first for Call of Duty, it appears that Treyarch’s follow-up to Black Ops Cold War will allow players to enter a third-person perspective just by choosing a specific Perk.
In the datamined full list of Call of Duty 2024 Perks, one notable loadout addition caught our eye:
“Third Person Mode – Move and fire from the hip in third person. Aim Down Sights is in first person.”
The game, which is supposedly set in the Gulf War, would therefore be the only COD game to allow both first-person and third-person players to play together in standard multiplayer matches.
Is This Too Powerful a Perk?
It’s worth noting that a third-person perspective will give players an advantage in-game, as they’ll be able to position the camera to peek around corners without exposing themselves.
Partner that up with the fact that you can still ADS in first-person, and you seem to have the best of both worlds.
As a trade-off, however, opting into third-person mode will require losing out on another possible Perk.
While we imagine the Perk will be a popular choice, we’ll have to wait and see how powerful it actually ends up being.
Of course, this is all coming from a datamine of the COD 2024 files that are already present in COD HQ. We’d recommend taking it with a hefty pinch of salt for now!
