Treyarch has already revealed ‘The Tomb,’ the next round-based Zombies map coming to Black Ops 6 in Season 2 – here’s everything we know!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has the best Zombies mode we’ve seen in years, and we’re already getting a fourth map arriving in the next major update.

Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch’s most recent release, ended its lifespan with four round-based maps for players to enjoy. The same was true for Vanguard, the last COD title to receive a ’round-based’ experience.

Now, Black Ops 6 Zombies’ fourth map is already preparing to arrive – here’s what we know about it:

Everything We Know About The Tomb

Release Date

The Tomb, Black Ops 6 Zombies’ fourth round-based map, releases on January 28, 2025, alongside the Season 2 update.

Treyarch confirmed the map’s release date on 115 Day (January 15), an annual celebration of the COD Zombies franchise.

Alongside the map’s release date and official title, the developer also revealed some interesting information about what players can expect.

The Story

The events of The Tomb are a direct follow-up from the conclusion of the Citadelle des Morts Easter Egg.

Following the final words of Gabriel Krafft, Ex-Requiem members Weaver, Grey, Carver, and Maya head to a nearby excavation site to discover the Sentinel Artifact. With it, they hope to discover a way to rescue Samantha Maxis, if one exists at all.

However, we know that Edward Richtofen is also after the Sentinel Artifact for his own means.

And while several members of the Zombies Crew hold a grudge against their former Director for imprisoning them on Terminus Island, Krafft’s final words begging them not to kill his son still linger in their minds.

The Tomb’s Main Quest will go live as soon as the map releases on January 28, 2025. A Directed Mode will become available later in Season 2, likely ahead of the Reloaded update in late February.

The Map Setting

The Tomb map takes place on the remains of ancient burial grounds with suspected origins dating back to 2500 B.C.E.

There, the catacombs went undisturbed until 1908, until British archeologist Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe conducted a grand excavation.

While nobody knows what became of him, a handful of photographs from his doomed expedition have recently come to light.

But Archibald’s fate will soon come to light, as echoes of his journey will be audible as players make their way through The Tomb’s depths.

We’ve got a full breakdown of all The Tomb images so far, for those who want an in-depth analysis of what to expect!

Similar to Liberty Falls

According to Treyarch, The Tomb will be more similar to Liberty Falls than the other Black Ops 6 Zombies maps:

“We’ve crafted The Tomb to provide an experience similar to Liberty Falls (by far our most-played Zombies map in recent years!), featuring tighter play spaces with a focus on replayability.”

Prior to the launch of Black Ops 6 Zombies, fans were concerned about Liberty Falls being more ‘open-world’ than a standard round-based experience.

Liberty Falls Mangler

However, since release day, fans have quickly come around on the West Virginian town map.

Treyarch has repeatedly expressed that the fan response to Liberty Falls has been overwhelmingly positive – and it seems that the map is already influencing further Zombies experiences.

Ice Staff Wonder Weapon

After Treyarch teased that a ‘reimagined Wonder Weapon’ would be available on the new map, we now know that the Ice Staff is returning in The Tomb!

The Staff of Ice, which first appeared in Black Ops 2’s Origins map, is capable of firing ice projectiles and freezing the undead in place. What’s more, it has an Area of Effect special ability to damage all enemies nearby, and is even capable of reviving allies from a distance!

Treyarch has now confirmed that the other elemental staff Wonder Weapons will not be returning alongside the Staff of Ice.

However, fans will likely be happy enough just to get this iconic weapon in a location which seems to have been inspired by its original map.

This isn’t the first time that an iconic Wonder Weapon has made its return in Black Ops 6 Zombies.

In fact, Liberty Falls, which has inspired The Tomb’s gameplay design, features the Jet Gun from Black Ops 2’s TranZit map!

PPSh-41 Returns

But it’s not only a revamped Wonder Weapon that we’ll see returning in Black Ops 6 Zombies’ new map. Treyarch confirms that Season 2 will bring a new gun to the game – one that Zombies fans should be all too familiar with.

The PPSh-41, which Treyarch calls ‘one of the most iconic SMGs in Zombies history’ will arrive alongside The Tomb in the Season 2 update.

We can therefore expect the PPSh-41 to have a Wall Buy somewhere in the depth of The Tomb, and perhaps a Zombies-themed Blueprint is also on the way.

Longtime Zombies fans will remember the PPSh-41 as being one of the definitive guns of World at War, the COD title that introduced the concept of an undead survival mode.

Of course, there are also other new weapons coming alongside the Season 2 expansion, but it’s clear that Treyarch intends to deliver a blast for the past for Zombies players specifically while unearthing the secrets of The Tomb.

New Enemy: Shock Mimic

Black Ops Cold War’s Mimics are back, and this time they’re electrically charged. As usual, this craft enemies will disguise themselves as useful objects before popping out for a shocking surprise.

If grabbed and bitten by a Shock Mimic, players will experience some electrical distortion that affects both their vision and their radar.

New Perk: Death Perception

New to Black Ops 6 comes a returning Perk: Death Perception!

Death Perception, which was first introduced in Black Ops 4, is a Perk-a-Cola that gives players the ability to detect enemies through walls by showing outlines of their bodies.

But that’s not all, this time around, as Treyarch promises that the Perk has ‘new abilities for its Black Ops 6 debut’. Whether the developer is teasing a new base ability, or referencing the Perk’s powerful Augments, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Death Perception will certainly come in handy given that The Tomb has players fighting in tight spaces. Be sure to grab it so you’re never caught unaware!

Additional GobbleGums

Speaking of new additions, Season 2 introduces three new GobbleGums for Black Ops 6 Zombies fans to collect.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that players will be able to get their hands on these new consumables right away.

However, we’re sure another Pay-to-Win GobbleGum bundle will arrive in-game soon, giving us a surefire way to try out the new items.

War Machine Support Weapon

The War Machine returns in Black Ops 6 Zombies, giving players a new Support Weapon to help players tear through the undead hordes.
