Treyarch just released a new image of The Tomb and our upcoming Black Ops 6 Zombies map looks to draw some heavy inspiration from COD Ghosts’ Awakening map!
Black Ops 6’s new Zombies map arrives next week, on January 28, and players are already eager to delve into the mysteries of ‘The Tomb.’
As the Ex-Requiem Zombies Crew heads to an excavation site in search of a way to save Samantha Maxis, obvious parallels can be drawn to Black Ops 3’s Origins map.
However, could Treyarch actually be incorporating elements of Call of Duty: Ghosts into The Tomb?
The Ghosts Inspiration
Some Call of Duty Zombies fans believe that Treyarch’s latest teaser image could actually be a reference to the Extinction map ‘Awakening’ from COD Ghosts.
One of the photographs allegedly taken by Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe on his underground expedition references a ‘non-Euclidian space’ within, beneath alien skies.
It didn’t take long for players to notice the similarities to Extinction’s Awakening map.
Not only does the geometry look similar to the COD Ghosts setting, but the fauna also seems to match.

It’s worth mentioning that Extinction was not a Zombies mode, but Infinity Ward’s creation drew heavy inspiration from the classic undead-survival game type.
But would Treyarch really reference a map that not only wasn’t its own, but wasn’t actually Zombies at all?
YouTuber TheGamingRevolution points out that the image, particularly when colored, also appears similar to the Origins excavation site. Considering that both The Tomb and Origins take place on a dig site, this could be the more likely connection.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what Treyarch has in store for us.
