It looks like the PS5 Pro won’t have a major exclusive game releasing alongside it, much to the disappointment of PlayStation fans!

While there has been no official word from Sony yet, the PS5 Pro is in development. In fact, all of the rumors suggest that the console will release later this year!

However, a console is nothing without games, and this is where the PS5 Pro may fall short of expectations. Based on the release date leaks, as well as Sony’s plans for game releases, it looks like the mid-generation PS5 upgrade may drop in a period where no major exclusives will be launching!

The PS5 Pro Could Drop Without a System-Seller

All of the leaks and rumors point toward the PS5 Pro releasing in late 2024. And while it is great news for PlayStation fans, Sony has already confirmed that there will be no major exclusive games releasing in this window.

As reported by IGN, Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Hiroki Totoki said that there will be no new games from major PlayStation properties in 2025. During a Sony financial call in February 2024, Totoki said:

“Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games. But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.”

This barren spell for PS5 releases could spell disaster for initial sales of the Pro version of the console, especially as the leaked PS5 Pro specs are pretty disappointing.

However, it is worth noting that Totoki’s phrasing of “new major existing franchise titles” doesn’t rule out any remasters, which Sony has been releasing plenty of recently. Therefore, Sony could release a highly-requested remake or remaster alongside the PS5 Pro – dare we even mention a Bloodborne remaster?

Otherwise, PlayStation fans may be waiting for GTA 6 to arrive in 2025 to play a game that truly utilizes the PS5 Pro’s additional power.

Hopefully, Sony will formally announce the PS5 Pro in the next few months, alongside whether the console will release alongside any must-buy games. Expect to see this announcement in a PlayStation Showcase over the Summer.
