It seems as though The Last of Us is getting a PS5 remake, and a brand new Uncharted game is in the works, according to a new report.
One of the biggest games of the last few years, The Last of Us: Part 2, was a tremendous success for Sony. The long-awaited follow-up to the popular 2013 title proved a little controversial story-wise, but there’s no denying that it’s a storytelling masterpiece.
Now, The Last of Us itself may be returning with a PS5 remake. This is undoubtedly a good sign that Part 2 will get a similar remaster for next-gen technology.
After months of silence from one of Sony’s top studios, Naughty Dog promised ‘several cool things’ are in the works. And it looks like that the studio head wasn’t lying about this one!

The Last of Us Remake for PS5
According to new insider information published at Bloomberg, both a new Uncharted game and a The Last of Us remake are in the works for PS5.
In the article, Jason Schreier reports that a new development unit founded by Michael Mumbauer set out working on a new remake of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. However, after Sony refused to acknowledge the team or give them sufficient support, Naughty Dog began to take over the project.
In Spring 2019, The Last of Us remake had a section of the game ready to showcase how the project would look and feel. But after delays to The Last of Us Part 2, Mumbauer’s team was pulled in to assist on the release.
After the completion of Part 2, some Naughty Dog staff returned to help with the remake project. It does make more sense to bring aboard members of a team who worked on the original game, but Naughty Dog soon became the lead developer.
Since then, Mumbauer and other team members have left the project completely, but it appears that the game is still in the works. But it’s not the only project that has fans excited.
Days Gone 2 Rumors Shut Down, Uncharted 5 in Development?
Also mentioned in the Bloomberg report was the future of both the Days Gone and Uncharted franchises.
According to Schreier, Sony Bend, developers of Days Gone, attempted to pitch a sequel back in 2019. However, due to the title’s mixed critical reception and long development time, the pitch was shut down.
Some studio members then went on to work on an upcoming Uncharted project – one that’s yet to show its head. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a secret Uncharted game, but nothing has officially been announced.
Allegedly, not all the Days Gone staff are working on Uncharted, however. Some of the Sony Bend folks are already busy working on a new title of their own.
It’s not all bad news for Days Gone either, as the game is coming to PC alongside other PlayStation exclusives. Soon, more fans will be able to enjoy the game, and perhaps it could lead to a sequel after all, if it proves popular enough.
We probably won’t be hearing more about Uncharted or The Last of Us for PS5 anytime soon though. After all, Sony isn’t one of the major studios attending E3 2021.
