It appears as though The Last of Us 2 release date has been pushed back until early 2020, according to an industry insider.
The Last of Us Part 2 Release Date Report
The report comes from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who previously claimed The Last of Us 2 was planned for Fall 2019. While this information was most likely previously true, it seems as if Naughty Dog will be pushing back the release for a little while longer.
It’s unclear as to when exactly The Last of Us 2 release date is. Schreier has claimed the following, however.
Looks like Death Stranding is about to get announced for a November release. The Last of Us 2 was also planned for fall 2019 but I actually just heard it got bumped to early 2020, possibly February? Either way, wild final year for PS4 https://t.co/wh6kimA73b

Although Schreier is a reliable member of the industry, their claims shouldn’t be deemed as entirely accurate. Schreier has been correct on many occasions in the past, but we should at least remain somewhat sceptical. Naughty Dog’s plans could also be subject to change again.
As of recently, Spanish website Legion de Jugadores claimed that The Last of Us 2 would be revealed later this week in all-new PlayStation State of Play episode. Additionally, ESGameReactor also mentioned that the upcoming PS4 sequel would be revealed prior to E3 2019 with a release planned for later this year.
Further, other reports courtesy of Reset Era user “Aokiji” also claimed the title would receive a reveal before E3 2019.
At this moment in time, it’s unclear as to whether this information was faked, or if the Santa Monica based studio had a major change of plan. Either way, we shall find out shortly whether or not a State of Play episode is on the horizon.
Naughty Dog will most likely provide word within the near future as to what exactly has gone on. Even though development appeared to be coming to an end, it most likely didn’t go to plan.
Sony recently reconfirmed that the next addition to the franchise would indeed be releasing on PS4, despite speculation resistant to the prospect. It’s likely the title will also launch on the PS5.
