Both games might be a way off just yet but Todd Howard has a new update on The Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield, and more.
Bethesda is one of the biggest game studios in the world, known for creating incredible open-world RPGs like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and more. Of course, making titles like these is no easy feat, and a lot of time and effort goes into every upcoming project.
As a consequence, Bethesda games have a rather long development time. And we’re finally getting more information about some of the company’s biggest upcoming projects.
In case you missed it, we got our first in-game look at Starfield, Bethesda’s space-themed RPG, recently. And in a new E3 trailer, fans think they’ve found a teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6.
Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 Update From Todd Howard
If you were waiting for another update on Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, you’re in luck. Bethesda Director Todd Howard is revealing new details about both upcoming projects and more.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Howard went into detail about the new Creation Engine 2, an engine that both upcoming titles will run on.
“The [new Starfield] technology, Creation Engine 2, is sort of built for both. It’s like a new tech base. The vast majority of our development work is on Starfield right now but everybody works on everything so the projects kind of intertwine.”
Howard confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6’s reveal back in 2018 was done to assure fans that the company is still committed to the single-player experience. After the rocky launch of Fallout 76, Bethesda had some work to do in restoring the fans’ trust.
But what does the new engine mean for both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6? Todd Howard reports that the new technology is necessary when it comes to some of the ideas that Bethesda has planned for the future.
However, don’t expect the Skyrim successor to be dropping anytime soon.
“It’s good to think of The Elder Scrolls 6 as still being in a design [phase]… but we’re checking the tech: ‘Is this going to handle the things we want to do in that game?’ Every game will have some new suites of technology so Elder Scrolls 6 will have some additions on to Creation Engine 2 that that game is going to require.”
Indiana Jones Bethesda Game Update
But there’s another upcoming Bethesda project that we also get a look at in the new interview. According to Howard, he first pitched the recently-announced Indiana Jones Bethesda title back in 2009 to George Lucas himself.
Now, the game is finally a reality and Machine Games is reportedly doing ‘a phenomenal job.’
Todd Howard is clearly excited about the project, with the longtime Indiana Jones fan acting as Executive Producer on the upcoming title. But will Indiana Jones affect The Elder Scrolls 6’s development time?
Thankfully, we already have the release date for Starfield and it’s sooner than you’d think!
Of course, PlayStation fans may not ever get to play any of the aforementioned titles. Thanks to a $7.5 billion buyout, it looks like both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 will be Xbox exclusive titles.
