20. Resident Evil 8

The Resident Evil series has been making a comeback, and Resident Evil 8 only gave another reason to play the franchise again.

Following on from Resident Evil 7, you play as Ethan Winter who must take on horrifying creatures and deadly encounters to save his wife and daughter.

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga
TT Games

19. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars has long been a fan favorite, and The Skywalker Saga brings back that magic and brings all nine mainline movies to play through.

It’s a great family game, which is hilarious, fun, and a great time. But if you need any more reason, check out what our reviewer thought of the game, giving it a 9/10 score.

“LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has secured its place on the list of the best Star Wars games of all time. There’s plenty here for casual and hardcore Star Wars fans alike, no matter your trilogy preference.”

Respawn Entertainment

18. Apex Legends

Apex Legends has been a great free-to-play and Battle Royale game from Respawn Entertainment.

Players choose between many legends in each match, finding loot and fighting to be the last one (or team) standing.

The fact that Apex Legends is completely free-to-play, aside from cosmetics or paying to unlock Legends faster, is a great way to play a game on your brand new Xbox.

It’s also recently been updated to the Series X/S versions too, so you get the power of the Xbox Series consoles for Apex Legends!

Best Xbox Series Games Control
Remedy Entertainment

17. Control

Control is one of the wackiest, strangest, and best third-person shooters on the market. And, it’s a must-buy for anyone who likes strange stories and great combat.

Control, developed by Remedy Entertainment, which is known for its incredible games like Alan Wake and Quantum Break, put all of its cards on the table here.

It’s best not to spoil any of the great moments in Control, but go and check it out. It’s a great game, and the added power of the Xbox Series consoles makes it even better!

16. Destiny 2

While Destiny 2 started as a game you needed to buy, it switched to a free-to-play model a few years ago, it is now one of the top games on all platforms, and a great game if you like MMOs, FPS’, and cool abilities.

There are a few expansions, which can be purchased, but the core game is completely free. It’s worth trying to see if you like it.

Following that, you can get the latest expansion – The Witch Queen. We wrote a review for the latest expansion, and here were our thoughts:

“The future of Destiny 2 The Witch Queen is an exciting, and needed, addition to Destiny 2. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel of Bungie’s MMO experience, it gives a wonderful story while also opening up the doors to future expansions.”

Best Xbox Games in 2022 Forza Horizon 5

15. Forza Horizon 5

The latest game in the Forza Horizon series, Forza Horizon 5, is a critical and commercial success. And there’s a good reason for that.

Even those who don’t have an interest in the Racing Game genre will be in awe of the visuals and mechanically-sound driving. And those with an interest in the genre will find even more to love.

Forza Horizon 5 scored high scores in reviews across the board and has quickly become one of the most popular games on Xbox Game Pass.

Epic Games

14. Fortnite

Do we really have to tell you about Fortnite? It’s one of the biggest games on the market and has been at the top spot for years.

This Battle Royale has seen collaborations with Marvel, DC, Celebrities, Star Wars, and many, many more. And it’s completely free-to-play.

Fortnite is a high standard for what free games can, and should do. It redefined microtransactions in games to a new industry standard and remains one of the best games out there.

Halo Infinite Master Chief Art

13. Halo: Infinite

Halo is one of Xbox’s flagship franchises and Infinite takes all of that to a new level.

The multiplayer, which is free-to-play, has new content with a Season method similar to other free games. And the campaign is one of the best Halo experiences in terms of gameplay.

It’s an even better deal if you have Xbox Game Pass, as the campaign is free to those with a subscription!

It Takes Two Best Xbox Series Games in 2022

12. It Takes Two

While It Takes Two does require a second person to play, it’s the greatest couch co-op game that money can buy.

It tells the heartwarming story of two parents who have grown apart and filed for divorce. However, they get turned into dolls and must adventure across their own home in a way they’ve never seen before.

It Takes Two is “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” in a new form, and it’s an incredible adventure to play with someone else!

Sea of Thieves Best Xbox Games to Play in 2022

11. Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves has been going on for a few years now, but it’s still a great game to get into!

Have you ever dreamed of being the captain of your own Pirate Ship? What about sailing across the seas to find hidden treasure? Or maybe even fighting the deadly mythical Kraken?

Sea of Thieves is one of the better Xbox exclusives, and the fact it’s popular years after release is a testament to how good it really is!

Dying Light 2 Best Xbox Games in 2022

10. Dying Light 2 (And 1, Really!)

Zombies and Parkour seem like it wouldn’t go together, but Techland’s Dying Light series has proven that they can go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly.

While Dying Light 2 is the latest game, which means it takes more advantage of the newer consoles, Dying Light 1 has seen a Next-Gen Update as well as still containing a great amount of content.

If you like Zombies, Mirror’s Edge, or killing things, then Dying Light and Dying Light 2 may be perfect for you!

Hades Best Xbox Games in 2022
Supergiant Games

9. Hades

Hades won plenty of awards in 2021, following its full release in late 2020. And it’s now available on Xbox consoles.

If you like great Roguelites with fascinating stories, excellent gameplay, and an incredible cast of voice actors, then Hades is for you!

There’s a learning curve to playing Hades right, as death will take you right back to the start. But with each playthrough, you get better and better. It’s really a game you can’t miss out on.

Gears 5 Xbox Best Games 2022

8. Gears 5

The fifth game in the mainline franchise of Gears of War, simply called Gears 5, has received a lot of praise from fans.

Not only is it a great game that showcases the power of the Xbox One console at the time, but it’s also now been updated with lots of content and an Xbox Series upgrade.

Thankfully, if you haven’t caught up on all of the Gears of War games, there’s a recap option that tells the story of Gears of War 4.

The Forgotten City best Xbox games 2022
Modern Storyteller

7. The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City started as a mod for The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, before becoming its own standalone indie game.

And while it’s a short single-player story, The Forgotten City is one of the most interesting games out there. It revolves around the player heading back in time to a city with The Golden Rule, that no sins should be broken or every person in the city will be turned into gold.

It’s a great story surrounding the idea of morality, what is defined as a sin, and has a fun time-loop mechanic which makes it all the more fun.

Devil May Cry Best Xbox Series X S Games

6. Devil May Cry V

The Devil May Cry series has been extremely popular since its conception. But Devil May Cry V raises the stakes and makes the core gameplay so much better.

This Hack-and-Slash game is one of the biggest in the franchise, thanks to its incredible gameplay, and replayability, and it’s been made even better on Series X with the Special Edition.

If you like fast-paced action, killing demons, and a pretty insane and weird story to boot, you won’t want to miss out on Devil May Cry V at all.

Halo MCC Best Xbox Games

5. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

What’s better than Halo: Infinite? Halo: The Master Chief Collection, that’s what. While Infinite may have some of the best gameplay mechanics and graphics, Halo: MCC has all of the classics.

You’ve got all of the Halo’s developed by Bungie, remastered or even sometimes remade to match newer graphics and gameplay. And for those who prefer the classic look, some like Halo 2 have the original graphics with the press of a button.

If you want to experience Master Chief’s story to its fullest, then the Halo: MCC bundle is a great way to do that. It also has a great co-operative experience built-in.

Psychonauts 2 Xbox Series X best games
Double Fine Productions

4. Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2 is the sequel to the cult classic Psychonauts, which was released back in 2005. It follows Raz, a boy gifted with psychic powers who joins the Psychonauts in using their gifted abilities to protect from those with nefarious purposes.

Psychonauts 2 was critically acclaimed at release, being rewarded with generally favorable reviews across the board. Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon 5, and another game coming up in this list helped Microsoft become the top publisher on Metacritic for 2021!

You don’t need to have played the first game either, as the game does a good job at recapping the events from the first one!

Microsoft Flight Simulator Best Games on Xbox

3. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

It’s technically a game so we can count it on this list. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is an incredibly complex, detailed, and amazing simulator that allows you to fly many planes across the entire globe. Yes, the ENTIRE globe.

MFS2020 is difficult to learn, due to so many systems to manage, but once you start flying, it can be an extremely fun experience.

If you’re willing to give it a go, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is a great game. And it’s superbly powered by the Xbox Series X.

Xbox Guardians of the Galaxy Best Games So Far
Square Enix

2. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best action-adventure games on Xbox Series X/S. It tells a great standalone store of the rag-tag team that we’ve all come to love.

While Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy tells a story that isn’t linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’ll still recognize some of your favorite characters.

And better yet, the gameplay is absolutely solid. You don’t get to play as any Guardian other than Starlord, but commanding them in battle to use their abilities feels exciting and adds a level of strategy.

Finally, Guardians of the Galaxy is an eye-pleasing game. Its distinct visuals will age extremely well, and we think this game will be a talking point for years.

1. Elden Ring

Was there really any other choice to be at the top of the list? Elden Ring is one of the most exciting, ground-breaking, and best games on the Xbox family of consoles to date.

We gave it a 9/10 in our Elden Ring review, offering the following quote in the conclusion:

“Elden Ring’s very nature is a conflict of beauty and brutality. If you can face the nightmares that FromSoftware has conjured up, you’ll find an engaging and riveting experience from the start to the end.”

Elden Ring is one of the greatest games to release on the Xbox Series X/S and any other platform for that matter. It’s a superbly-crafted Action-RPG, which despite its difficulty, is one of the most enticing games of all time.

And that’s our list of the best Xbox Series games to play right now! Hopefully, there will be something here that you’ll love!
