Skill magazines, to skill books are very rare collectible items in Starfield that are scattered across the galaxy, and picking them up will give you a helpful in-game bonus. These bonuses range from increased carrying capacity to dealing additional damage with a certain type of weapon.
As soon as you pick up a skill magazine, you get that book’s bonus applied forever, even if you drop or sell the magazine. Therefore, you’ll want to pick up as many of them as you can!

CombaTech Catalog 03 is on a shelf in the Best Defense weapons shop in Hopetown.
Hopetown is located on the planet Polvo in the Porrima system.
CombaTech Catalog 04
On a desk outside Ervin Madani’s computer in the Gagarin abandoned mine during Barrett’s companion quest, Breach of Contract.
CombaTech Catalog 05
CombaTech Catalog 05 can always be found on a desk in a Forgotten Mech Graveyard. However, the locations of Forgotten Mech Graveyards are randomized for each player.
We found it on Cruth in the Narion system, but it will likely be on a different planet for you.
We suggest you use the star map and search through planets until you find one with a Forgotten Mech Graveyard on it, and then see if you can find CombaTech Catalog 05 there!

Constellation Guide 02 is located at the top of an Abandoned Research Tower, on a desk next to a computer that controls the doors.
However, the locations of Abandoned Research Towers are randomized for each player. Use the star map to search through planets until you find one with an Abandoned Research Tower on it – you’ll likely find Constellation Guide 02 there.
Constellation Guide 03
You can find Constellation Guide 03 in the Dauntless Crew’s Crash Site on Cassiopeia I. It is on a dining table in the middle of the building.
You go here during the Sarah Morgan companion quest, In Memoriam.
Constellation Guide 04
Constellation Guide 04 is located in The Clinic, a medical facility orbiting Deepala in the Narion system.
You can find it as soon as you step into The Clinic, on a coffee table in between some chairs.

This is where you go on your first side mission with the Freestar Collective, Deputized.
Grunt Issue 04 Location
Grunt Issue 04 is on a table at the back of The Last Nova.
This is the bar inside The Key – the Crimson Fleet’s headquarters in the Kryx system.
Grunt Issue 06 Location
Issue 06 of Grunt is on a desk above a safe in a deserted Ecliptic Garrison.
As the locations of Deserted Ecliptic Garrisons are randomized for each player, you’ll have to use the star map to search planets and find one.
Grunt Issue 07 Location
Grunt Issue 07 is located in any Abandoned Cryo Lab. These structures are in randomly generated places, so you may have to do some exploring to find one.
You can find it on a desk on the left-hand side in the first room of the building.
Grunt Issue 08 Location
Grunt 08 is on a table in the captain’s office of the Retrofitted Starstation you visit at the end of the Failure to Communicate side mission.
The exact location of this startstation is randomized, but it will always be in the same place within the starstation.

You can find it in a small room in the middle of the mine behind an advanced locked door.

It is on the top floor in the research lab under a Quantum Synergies poster.

Nova Galactic Manual 06 is in the Autonomous Staryard, orbiting Volii Psi, a moon of Volii Tau.
It is in a room at the end of the staryard behind the red locked door, after going past the mining turret.

You can pick up Nova Galactic Manual 08 on a desk in the office upstairs in an Abandoned Shipping Depot.
The location of these depots is randomly generated, so you may have to search the galaxy for a while to find one!

You can find it on a desk next to the Security Terminal at the top of the station, in the residential section which you can access from some stairs at the back. However, you’ll need to defeat plenty of Va’ruun Zealots to get there!
The New Atlantian 03 Location
You can find the New Atlantian 03 on a table outside of Pioneer Tower in New Atlantis.
You can get here by going to the residential district and walking through the restaurant at the bottom of the tower until you get to the seating area outdoors.
The New Atlantian 04 Location
The New Atlantian 04 is on a bedside table in a bedroom at the back of the Eleos Retreat.
The Eleos Retreat is on the planet Ixyll II in the Ixyll system.

Vanguard Space Tactics 04 is on a desk in the first room on the second floor of Deimos Armored Transport.
You can find this orbiting Grissom in the Alpha Centauri system.

From Aggie’s bar, walk down the stretch and look to the buildings on your right until you see the Rock Employee Residence sign and go into the small building below that. It is in a box in there.

It is always on a desk in the office on the top floor, but the locations of Abandoned Hangars are randomized, so they are different for every player.

Va’ruun Scripture 09 is in a locker of the living quarters in an Abandoned Industrial Compound.
It will always be in an Abandoned Industrial Compound, but the locations of these compounds are randomized.
Starfield’s skill magazines are worth picking up even if you’re nearing the end of the game too. This is because all of the bonuses continue into New Game Plus!
