Is Jedi: Survivor’s Cal Kestis Canon to the Star Wars Universe?

Could Cameron Monaghan's red-haired Jedi surface in a future TV show or movie?

In Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, we’re introduced to the character of Cal Kestis – but is the game protagonist canon to the Star Wars lore?

Since Disney bought Star Wars, what is and isn’t considered to be canon can be a confusing subject.

But thankfully, we have a definitive answer to whether Cal Kestis really exists in the same universe as the Star Wars movies.

Is Cal Kestis Canon?

Yes, Cal Kestis is considered to be a canon character in the Star Wars universe. The events of both Fallen Order and Survivor are both also canon to Disney’s Star Wars timeline.

Although we don’t know exactly where Cal Kestis is during the events of the original trilogy, there’s no reason that he couldn’t show up in future movies or TV shows.

Although actor Cameron Monaghan has indicated that portraying Cal Kestis in a live-action setting isn’t a priority for him right now, he did say “we’ll see” when asked about the possibility of stepping into the role on the big screen.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Cal and BD-1

Interestingly, the events of Jedi: Survivor take place at the same time as the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. Here’s exactly where Cal Kestis’ adventure fits on the Star Wars timeline.

Cal Kestis has also shown up in one canon Star Wars novel, Brotherhood by Mike Chen.

In the book, Anakin Skywalker encounters Kestis’ master Jaro Tapal, who is accompanied by a red-haired youngling – confirmed by Chen to be Cal.

If there was any doubt, this gives further confirmation as to Disney considering Kestis to be a canon addition to the universe.

What Color is Cal Kestis’ Lightsaber in Canon?

The lightsaber of Cal Kestis is blue in canon, however players can freely customize the weapon’s blade color with an array of options.

Cal Kestis’ lightsaber was introduced partway through the Fallen Order storyline, where he combined parts of his master Jaro Tapal’s blade with that of Cere Junda’s old lightsaber.

When it is shown in promotional materials, Kestis’ lightsaber is primarily blue. But, as the biggest Jedi: Survivor fans will know, it’s possible to get your hands on a red lightsaber in the latest game.
