It looks like a Splitgate next-gen update is in the works for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Splitgate is the latest internet craze when it comes to the gaming industry. A free-to-play multiplayer shooter with a ‘Halo meets Portal’ style, it’s no surprise that a game like this was able to take off.
What is surprising is just how long it took to become this popular. After launching in 2019, the FPS became so successful this year that players were waiting in queues for an hour just to play Splitgate.
Now, thanks to a big Splitgate server capacity upgrade, more players than ever are able to play the popular title. And there’s another big update coming, with a next-gen patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Splitgate Next-Gen Patch Details Revealed
In a new Q&A live on Twitch, Splitgate developer 1047 Games discusses the game’s upcoming next-gen update.
Yesterday’s developer Q&A revealed a lot of interesting details about the future of the franchise. After all, we heard about the possibility of a Splitgate Battle Royale, which is exciting fans in a major way.
The developer also revealed that it’s absolutely dedicated to anti-cheat in Splitgate. And with a lot of gamers quitting Warzone due to cheaters right now, we’re relieved to hear that the company will take care of the migrating player base.
But it looks as though a next-gen upgrade is already on the cards for Splitgate too.
“We are gonna do it,” CEO Ian Proulx confirms.
In fact, it looks like Splitgate was always going to have a next-gen patch. The upgrade was meant to be out already, in fact, but the team has been devoting 110% effort to getting its servers ready.
Thankfully, Splitgate’s queue times are already decreasing significantly, so development may begin on the upgrade again soon.
Splitgate Next-Gen Update Resolution, FPS & More
1047 Games isn’t ready to share any specifics about what’s coming in Splitgate’s next-gen update. However, Proulx states that “there are some obvious things that pretty much every game is doing that we will explore doing.”
What we take this to mean is that Splitgate may well be running at 4K, 120 FPS in its next-gen upgrade.
And that’s not all, as Splitgate is also coming to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices in the future! Before that though, 1047 Games has a lot of work to do.
