The upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to release on Steam this year, but should you buy it on Steam or Battlenet?
With the reveal, we learned that Activision is bringing Modern Warfare 2 to Steam at release. This marks the first Call of Duty to release on Steam since 2017’s World War 2.
That means PC players now have a choice to make. If you’re struggling to decide whether to buy Modern Warfare 2 on Steam or Battlenet, we’re here to help.

Should You Get Call of Duty MW2 on Battlenet or Steam?
Whether you get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Battle.net or Steam depends on a few factors. But your best option is Steam and here’s why.
Many Call of Duty fans will have gotten used to purchasing Call of Duty games on Battlenet. However, many players found it frustrating to have another launcher on their PC.
Buying the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 on Steam will allow you to keep all of your games in one library. Steam also offers a great refund system, in case your PC struggles with Modern Warfare 2 (or the game is unoptimized).
It also seems that, in many players’ experience, Activision’s support isn’t as good as Valve’s support with Steam.

Of course, you could spend all of your CoD Points before moving back to Steam. And, you could purchase one of the higher Modern Warfare 2 editions on Steam to restart your collection.
Overall, it seems Steam is the better place to own Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. However, the choice is entirely up to you, and you’ll likely get the same experience on either platform.

I want to get in on Steam, i also find my COD Cold War always crashes on launch, it's probably unrelated to the Blizzard launcher, but my Steam games never crash on launch (or at all).. only issue is i have lots of COD points racked up on Cold War and Vanguard, on Blizzard. If that profile doesn't get transferred over to the Steam version, that would be a pain to manage. I paid one Season Pass long ago, and just been playing and the free points they give let me continue to repurchase the Season Passes without paying a cent, and one Season Pass covered both games.

So If I buy MWII on steam I will lose the cod points, but if I buy it on battle.net they will transfer?

@Wout, that sucks... and that probably also means you'd have to buy a Season Pass you purchase on MWII will not apply to the Vanguard/Cold War games. Right now, my Cold War Season Pass also applies to Vanguard.

@Wout, yes

If warzone 2 launches on battlenet only you still need to buy mw2 on battlenet or have a contracted phone number. This hurts me and a mass majority unless both mw2 and warzone 2 launch on steam. Its not in the clear yet i believe and doing preorders now still hurts your refund policy when it launches on steam. Best action is wait until launch.so we may still be stuck with buying mw2 on battlenet sadly.

@Jose, I just had my ticket about my phone number not working. (Cricket and many other carriers apparently will not work because they flag your number different, even if it is post paid). Anyhow instead of any info or help they just refunded me. So now I'll be trying steam since that 2 factor crap is through battlenet.

@Mink, I’m having the same problem with the phone hunger thing, do you think mw2 will ask you to add a phone number? They did it with the beta, would they do it when the actual game comes out?

@Ross, XD sometimes you just need a quick google to find out! but thanks!

@Mink, Warzone is and always has been free to play. You won't need the game to play warzone 2

@Mink, I think that its guaranteed that Warzone 2 will be on battle.net and steam. My reason is that I researched for about 3 seconds and "theloadout" said that it will be on both Battle.net and Steam.
