Near the start of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link will encounter Purah and be given the Purah Pad.
But who is this character and have we met her before?
What Is the Purah Pad in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
The Purah Pad is a handheld tablet that replaces BOTW’s Sheikah Slate and acts as a map, menu, and camera in Tears of the Kingdom.
Players can bring up and use their Purah Pad at any time by pressing the – button. From there, they can mark locations, check objectives, fast travel, and more.

It’s worth noting that, much like the Sheikah Slate resembles the Wii U Gamepad, the Purah Pad is instead modeled after the Nintendo Switch.
How to Get the Purah Pad in Tears of the Kingdom
After jumping down to the Garden of Time, following Tears of the Kingdom’s opening cutscene, Link will be given the Purah Pad by the Steward Contruct.
The item is essential to progressing in your adventure, so it’s not something you should be able to miss.

Once you obtain the Purah Pad, only then will you be given Tears of the Kingdom’s first main mission – Find Princess Zelda.
Who Is Purah in Tears of the Kingdom?
Purah is a character who first appeared in Breath of the Wild, where she was the director of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.
Her experimentation with an anti-aging Rune gave her the body of a child, though she was (at the time) actually 124 years old.
In Tears of the Kingdom, we finally get to meet a grown-up Purah, now in the body of a young adult.

And it seems that in the time between games, Purah has created her own take on the Sheikah Slate – the Purah Pad!
And near the start of the game, Purah will be the one to give Link a paraglider!
Is Purah in BOTW?
Yes, Purah is a character first introduced in BOTW as the oldest Sheikah alive – despite her child-like appearance.
She is the older sister of Impa and the director of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.

Players will encounter Purah early on in their Breath of the Wild playthrough where Purah reveals that she was the one to take Link to the Shrine of Resurrection where he begins his adventure.
Purah is responsible for upgrading Link’s Sheikah Slate, so it makes sense that the researcher has now made her own version.
