After a prominent scalper group boasted about securing 2000 PS5s, this major retailer downplays their claims.
Yesterday a scalping group boasted about securing over 2000 PS5 consoles from UK retailer GAME once stock became available.
On Twitter, their boast read, "over 2000 checkouts successfully logged for today's GAME restock on the PS5", as well as that it "just keeps getting easier every time".
The scalpers soon ran for cover though once angry Twitter users responded in outrage. Many of which didn't hold back on telling the scalpers what they thought of them.
GAME responded to the online fracas; in a public statement they said, "PlayStation 5's continue to be in very high demand and that demand far outweighs current supply."
"We have strong measures in place to help ensure that our '1 per customer' statement is maintained to allow for as many individual customers to successfully purchase as possible.
"All pre-orders are subject to automatic checks and order updates such as cancellations following these checks take place after a customer will have received a valid order confirmation email. At the present time, these orders are still pre-orders and as such, no payments have yet been taken from customers. Payments will commence once our order checks have been completed."
PS5 Scalper Groups Continue to Cause Trouble
GAME didn't contradict the scalper group or verify their claims, so it's still unknown if they were true or just trolling. But the retailer is acutely aware of the threat they pose and taking steps to prevent them.
However, if the scalper group successfully secured over 2000 PS5 consoles, it's clear that more work needs to be done by the retail. They may not have a choice if certain members of the UK government get their way.
There's currently an effort in the UK Parliament to make retail bots illegal. Something that would hinder scalper group's plans, as they'd lose access to their favorite scalping method.
However, it remains to be seen if such laws will pass and be implemented on a practical level.
PS5 stock in the UK is dropping right now, so check it out and beat the scalpers! Buying console bundles can also prevent scalpers from doing their work.
