PS5 sales are still very healthy despite falling short of Sony’s target for the financial year ending in March 2024.

The PlayStation 5 has been an overwhelming success so far, and its sales have even outpaced that of the PS4.

However, despite having a much larger market share than its nearest rival, Xbox, Sony has reported that the number of units sold in the past year has fallen short of the target.

Here are all of the PS5 sales figures you need to know from Sony’s 2023 financial year earnings report!

PS5 Sales Figures for the 2023 Financial Year

According to Sony’s end-of-year financial report, the company sold 20.8 million PS5 consoles in the period from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.

This is a very impressive number and brings the total lifetime PS5 sales up to 59.2 million. However, 20.8 million units is also just short of the 21 million sales target that Sony had hoped to reach in the last financial year.

In terms of PS5 sales numbers going forward, Sony targets selling a further 18 million PS5s in the period from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.

Even though leaks suggest that the PS5 Pro will release later this year, a lower sales target for next year is sensible. As almost 60 million gamers already have PS5s, the rate at which the consoles will sell will slow down.

In addition to the decreasing demand for PS5 consoles, another major factor could have led to Sony’s more conservative prediction. Leaks suggest that the Switch 2 should arrive in early-mid 2025, so many gamers may buy Nintendo’s new console instead!
