Sony has delayed Returnal. The PS5 exclusive now has a new release date to allow the title more time for polish.
Originally due for release on the 19th of March, PS5 exclusive Returnal will now release on the 30th of April 2021.
Sony and the developers have issued a statement to explain the reason why, revealing that the game needs more time for polish. The statement said:
"SIE and Housemarque have made the decision to move the release date in order to give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque."
We know game delays are controversial and have a tendency to upset a lot of people on Twitter. But we feel like this is the most sensible decision if the game isn’t ready.
Nobody wants a repeat of the Cyberpunk 2077 drama of the past few months! So let’s hope the delay achieves what it’s supposed to.
What Do We Know About Returnal?
As well as being a Sony and PS5 exclusive game, Returnal will be a third-person survival/psychological horror game. It was originally revealed in summer 2020 during the same show that gave us our first glimpse at the PS5 console.
The game reminds us slightly of Mass Effect and Dead Space, so we’re optimistic about its potential when it does arrive in April.
Interestingly, it’s not the only survival/psychological horror game coming in the near future. Medium on the Xbox Series X/S also has a similar premise, although it won’t be a sci-fi title.
If dark worlds are your thing, then you may be excited to know about the Elden Ring release date leaks. As well as the rumor that the game will be unveiled in the near future.
