Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will utilize the brand new haptic feedback and trigger resistance on the DualSense controller for every weapon in the game.
The PlayStation 5 DualSense controller is quickly becoming one of the most revolutionary pieces of hardware for the next-generation console.
Previously, we had only seen the haptic feedback and trigger resistance features showcased in Sony's Astro's Playroom.
Now, one of the best selling game franchises of all time is adopting the technology.
Controller Features in Black Ops Cold War
Black Ops Cold War lead game designer Tony Flame confirmed Treyarch customized the haptic feedback and trigger resistance for each weapon.
This means that the vibration from firing each weapon and trigger resistance will be more life-like.
The amount of force required to pull the trigger on weapons will be similar to what is needed on a real-life weapon. Therefore, this will create a sense of realism never before experienced in Call of Duty, Flame said.
Of course, a controller can only create so much realism, but this is a step into the future of what gaming could become.
Early reviews of the PS5 and the controller are very positive. Some early reviews say the controller is revolutionary with its features and design. Others say the controller is the primary selling factor of the console.
Haptic Feedback - An Unfair Advantage?
Black Ops Cold War will include cross-platform play between the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC.
To create balance, Treyarch developers said players on each platform will have fair playing ground, despite the discrepancy between the graphics power of each.
However, the PS5 DualSense controller seems to include hardware features that none of the other platforms have. Some are concerned this may create an advantage for PS5 users.
No word regarding if the game will allow players to turn off the haptic and trigger feedback has surfaced yet.
Previously, game settings have allowed players to turn off controller vibration, but these new features may not be that simple.
To keep these revolutionary controllers charged, Sony created a dock that resembles a mini PS5.
Also, players will soon be able to use the DualSense controller's features on the Cold War Nuketown map.
