The PS5 has had a dominant launch, despite problems with stock and a catalog of technical issues. Could the PS5 console sales represent the best launch in games console history?
It’s starting to look that way. While there have been some clear hiccups, the numbers don’t lie - the PS5 is enjoying a rather spectacular launch.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has presented production challenges, which have resulted in stock shortages; PS5 console sales figures have still been incredibly impressive.
At launch in the US, the PS5 sold between 1.0 million and 1.2 million units and blasted past PS4 sales within a week. Just like Sony said they would.
As for everywhere else, the PS5 console sales reached an estimated 800,000 and 900,000 units. Now at the time of writing, the PS5 has sold over 2.5 million units – and growing.
PS5 Console Sales Could Become The Best Ever
Once stock allows, the PS5 will inevitably continue to sell well. This is because many people still want a PS5 who’ve been unable to secure one yet.
In the UK, the PS5 has been the biggest console launch ever, surpassing the PS4 once PS5 console sales exceeded 250k. We fully expect other territories to make the same pronouncement in the coming weeks.
The Xbox Series X/S sold an estimated 1.4 million units worldwide between both consoles in its first 24 hours. Which is significantly behind Sony’s latest offering, but still very impressive.
It makes us wonder how well both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S would have done without the challenges of COVID. While the launch of both has already been massive, it may have utterly eclipsed all that came before.
Of course, stock is still hard to come by, but here’s where to try and find a PS5 this Cyber Monday.
Don’t forget, some of the Black Friday PS5 deals may still be around. More PS5 stock is expected before the end of the year also.
