Best Blastoise Build – Pokemon Unite

When choosing to play as Blastoise, you’ll actually begin the game as Squirtle. You will then evolve to Wartortle at level 5 and finally Blastoise at level 9.

Unique Abilities

Torrent – When Blastoise is at half HP or less, its Attack and Sp. Atk are increased.

Basic Attack – Becomes a boosted attack with every third attack, dealing continual damage and decreasing the movement speed of opposing pokemon for a short time when it hits.

Level 1 / 3

Water Gun – 9s Cooldown – Attacks with a shot of water, shoving opposing Pokemon and decreasing their movement speed for a short time.

Skull Bash – 10s Cooldown – Fiercely rams an opposing Pokemon and leaves it unable to act

You’ll want to pick up Water Gun first as this will let you take down wild Pokemon faster and level up quicker. Skull Bash is also a useful move for Blastoise in Pokemon Unite, but it is better for defending your goal than farming.

Level 5

Hydro Pump – 8.5s Cooldown – Has the user attack by blasting out a huge volume of water, dealing damage to opposing Pokemon and shoving them when it hits.
Upgrade: Increases damage dealt by this move.

Water Spout – 9s Cooldown – Spouts water toward the designated location, decreasing the movement speed of opposing Pokemon in the area of effect for a short time.
Upgrade: Increases damage dealt by this move.

Both of these moves are good picks for Blastoise in Pokemon Unite, but we suggest choosing Hydro Pump. This is because it deals high damage and can help you shove opposing Pokemon out of your goal zone.

Alternatively, Water Spout can be a good choice if you prefer to have more map control and slow opponents down before they can get to your goal.

Level 7

Surf – 12s Cooldown -Has the user charge forward on a wave, shoving opposing Pokemon and leaving them unable to act.
Upgrade: Also grants a shield when this move hits.

Rapid Spin – 11s Cooldown – Has the user spin rapidly, changing the mechanics of basic attacks as well as its Hydro Pump and Water Spout moves.
Upgrade: Also reduces the damage the user receives while using this move.

You’ll want to pick Surf at level 7 as it is one of the most powerful crowd control moves in the game and can give Blastoise some added mobility too.

Rapid Spin can be effective in certain Pokemon Unite situations, but Surf is the better choice for Blastoise here.

Level 9

Unite Move – Hydro Typhoon – Spouts water to attack while spinning and throws opposing Pokemon in a large area. The user is shielded while using this move

Hydro Typhoon should be used when you need to KO and throw back opposing Pokemon. The best examples of this would be to stop your opponents from scoring in the late game or to ensure your team gets Zapdos by throwing your opponents away from the legendary Pokemon.

Best Blastoise Items – Pokemon Unite

When you’re playing Blastoise, here are the best items to use in Pokemon Unite:

Held Items

  • Buddy Barrier – Unite Move grants a Shield to the user and its lowest-HP ally, equal to a percentage of their respective max HPs.
  • Focus Band – When the Pokemon drops to low HP, then each second for three seconds, it recovers 8% of the HP it had lost.
  • Assault Vest – Gain a shield against Sp. Attack when out of combat. Also raises your HP and Sp Defense.

Alternatively, Leftovers and Rocky Helmet are good choices for any character with a lot of health in Pokemon Unite.

Battle Items

Despite its recent nerf, the Eject Button is still great for low mobility Pokemon like Blastoise as it lets you get around the map in a pinch.

Blastoise Strategy in Pokemon Unite

  • Blastoise is an expert at denying the opposing team goals. Make sure to not stray far from your goal so you can use all of your map control moves to shove and throw enemies back.
  • Your lane partner should be a Pokemon who can deal a lot of damage. Blastoise might be good at denying goals, but the damage can be lacking sometimes.
  • Feel free to keep your distance when possible. It’s tempting to get close with a tanky Defender, but Blastoise is most effective when there’s some distance between you and your opponent.
  • Use your Unite Move in game changing situations. Hydro Typhoon is powerful enough to stop a whole team from getting to Zapdos or to single-handedly push the opposing team away from your goal while you’re waiting for backup.
