Wondering about which version of the game to buy? Here are all the differences currently revealed for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet to help you decide!
As ever, there are two games coming out for the latest mainline Pokemon generation, Scarlet & Violet. And while it’s possible to buy both games in a 2-in-1 dualpack, most fans will probably only get their hands on a single copy.
With that in mind, which version of Gen 9 should you buy? And what are all of the differences between the two?
We’ve got a full breakdown here to help you find all the answers you’re looking for:
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Which Should I Buy?
For all those fans who are still undecided, there are a number of differences between Pokemon Scarlet & Violet that might sway your decision-making.
These include an ancient/future theme, version-exclusive Pokemon, your new legendary mount, and more. Here’s everything you need to know about each feature:
All Differences Between Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Past or Future Theme
Although the main story of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet won’t change much between versions, there will be some key differences. Most notably, Scarlet appears to be themed around the past, while Violet will be based around the future.
We don’t have any information on the game’s villains just yet, but chances are, they’ll be trying to alter the Paldea region based on one of these two themes.
And while the games will otherwise be very similar, expect some aesthetic changes with regards to either the past or future.
Koraidon or Miraidon
Tying in with the concept of past vs future, Pokemon Scarlet players will get the Legendary Pokemon Koraidon in-game. Meanwhile, Violet players will get access to Miraidon instead.
Make sure to pick the game that has the Legendary you like most, as you’ll be seeing it a lot. After all, players can ride, sail, or fly Koraidon and Miraidon around the open world for most of their adventure!
And these two motorcycle Pokemon aren’t the only exclusives that you’ll be getting in-game.
Version Exclusive Pokemon
Of course, there are also some Pokemon that are specific to each version of Gen 9, in order to encourage trading. Here are all the version-exclusive Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet that we know about so far.
Scarlet Exclusive Pokemon
Violet Exclusive Pokemon
More exclusive Pokemon will be sure to appear on these lists before long. And we’re already getting leaks for Ancient and Future Paradox Pokemon coming to Scarlet and Violet soon!
Professor Sada or Professor Turo
Throughout your adventures in the Paldea region, you’ll also encounter a different professor, depending on your game of choice. Scarlet fans will meet Professor Sada, while Violet owners will encounter Professor Turo instead.
And while we’re not playing favorites, only one of these two professors has been compared to the Gigachad meme.
Naranja Academy or Uva Academy
In the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer, fans were introduced to the academies that they’ll be attending in-game. Although there’s not too much difference between the two, Scarlet users will be attending Naranja (Orange) Academy.
Violet players will instead attend Uva (Grape) Academy, and the two schools each have their own uniforms. If you can’t stand the orange shorts of Naranja Academy, perhaps you’d prefer Pokemon Violet.
That said, character customization should allow you to change the offending item of clothing before long anyway.
