Pokemon Legends Arceus changed the game for Pokemon fans, who are now hoping that Legends Kyurem will be the long-awaited follow-up.
It feels like it’s been years since Pokemon Legends Arceus came along and threw Pokemon fans into disarray. Pitched as a new era for the mainline series, the game completely overhauled the traditional Pokemon formula, with an open world to explore and a focus on catching, not battling, creatures.
While we saw some elements of Pokemon Legends in Scarlet and Violet last year, it wasn’t quite the sequel that fans were hoping for.
But could Pokemon Legends Kyurem actually be on the cards?
Fans Demand Pokemon Legends Kyurem
Pokemon fans are calling out for Game Freak to release Pokemon Legends Kyurem, a follow-up to 2022’s Legends Arceus.
The game would be set in the Unova region but in ancient times, before Pokemon trainers were a regular commodity.
Like Sinnoh, Unova has a rich history to explore. Through the story of Black & White and their sequels, Black 2 & White 2, we learn that the legendary Pokemon Zekrom and Reshiram were once a single powerful creature used by twin heroes to create the region.
However, as the two brothers argued over their values, the dragon split in two, and the subsequent battle devastated Unova.
Meanwhile, Kyurem was initially believed to have come crashing down inside an icy meteor, forming the Giant Chasm around this time. But more recent evidence suggests that it could even have been created as a third dragon when Zekrom and Reshiram split apart.
Like in the case of Legends: Arceus, there’s clearly a rich history that could be explored in Legends: Kyurem.
Is There Going to Be a Pokemon Legends Kyurem?
So far there is no evidence that Pokemon Legends Kyurem, or indeed any new Legends title is in development.
However, Game Freak does refer to Pokemon Legends Arceus as a ‘mainline’ title, which would indicate that it won’t be a one-off experience.
YouTuber Dadrake95 put together a fanmade trailer showcasing what a potential Pokemon Legends Kyurem could look like:
Interestingly, evidence does point to a Pokemon Black & White remake dropping in 2024 or beyond.
On top of an assortment of leaks and rumors from known insiders, it’s worth noting that we’ve already had remakes of Pokemon Generations 1-4.
In the case of the most recent remakes, Gen 4, we got both Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Legends: Arceus acting as two different takes on the Sinnoh region.
While Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl sold well, the titles reviewed disappointingly compared to Arceus.
We don’t see The Pokemon Company wanting to miss out on the additional revenue however, so our bets are on a Black/White remake dropping even if it means going toe-to-toe with a Legends release once again.
Ultimately, it’s not unlikely that we’ll get a Black and White remake announcement dropping soon. But whether or not Pokemon Legends: Kyurem will ever become a reality – we’ll have to wait and find out.
