Pokemon GO Water Festival Event – New Pokemon, Dates & More

The Pokemon GO Water Festival has returned for 2022 – here’s everything you need to know about this exciting event full of Pokemon debuts and more!

The events keep on coming in Pokemon GO at the moment and the latest one to arrive is 2022’s Water Festival.

Not only will this feature the debut of 3 new Pokemon, but it’ll also be the first appearance of a special costumed Lapras!

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2022 Pokemon GO Water Festival!

Pokemon GO Water Festival 2022 Start & End Date

Firstly, the 2022 Water Festival in Pokemon GO will begin on Thursday, May 12 at 10:00 AM local time. It will run until 8 PM the following Friday, May 20.

This will give players just over a week to catch all of the new Pokemon arriving as part of the festival. Don’t forget about the Alolan Geodude Community Day happening shortly after the Water Festival!

New Pokemon Coming in Pokemon GO Water Festival 2022

The headline new Pokemon is the Legendary Tapu Fini. However, you’ll need to know how to beat Tapu Fini in Raids to catch one.

Additionally, a new costumed version of Lapras will be out in the wild for players to catch during the Water Festival. The scarf-wearing Lapras will also be available in shiny form too!

Next, Dewpider and its evolution Araquanid will also be debuting as part of the Water Festival. Make sure you catch plenty of them as you’ll need 50 Candy to evolve your Dewpider.

Finally, shiny Binacle is also appearing in Pokemon GO for the first time. This is great news for all of your shiny hunters!

Field Research & Timed Research

Like every Pokemon GO event, the Water Festival will also have field new research and timed research.

Completing the limited-time Field Research tasks will give you the opportunity to catch water-type Pokemon and earn some Blastoise or Gyarados Mega Energy.

Just make sure you know the best Pokemon GO Mega Evolution strategy before you use your Mega Energy!

Plus, there will be new Timed Research that you can complete to earn 50 Gyarados Mega Energy, 1000XP, and 1000 Stardust as well as encounters with scarf-wearing Lapras and Dewpider.

Global Challenge

A new global Challenge that tasks Pokemon GO players with catching 600,000,000 Water-type Pokemon will be running from 1 PM PDT on May 11 to 1 AM PDT on May 21.

Reaching this goal will reward every Pokemon GO player with 2x Candy for catching Pokemon.

The fourth Special Research story of the Season of Alola for Poni Island will also go live just before the event.

Next, the big 5-star raid in the Water Festival is the new Legendary Pokemon Tapu Fini! Additionally, following the huge changes to mega evolutions in Pokemon GO, we will see Mega Blastoise in raids.

There will also be a number of 3-star and 1-star raids during the festival including the scarf-wearing Lapras and powerful PvP ‘Mon Azumarill.

Water Festival Event 7km Eggs

The Water Festival is changing the Pokemon you can find in 7km eggs. This includes sought-after Pokemon like Clamperl and Staryu.

Event Bonuses

Finally, the Pokemon GO Water Festival will also feature some bonuses that will run throughout the event:

  • Rainy Lure Modules will last 2 hours.
  • 2x Candy from hatching eggs.
  • Increased XL Candy from hatching eggs.
