Fans are poking fun at Pokemon GO for a lackluster giveaway that wasn’t even worth copy/pasting to get the terrible free rewards.

Pokemon GO developer Niantic has been known to make some questionable moves, but few are more absurd than how it handles giveaways.

In a post that has since been deleted, the official Pokemon GO page offered a whopping 10 Poke Balls to anyone who redeemed the exclusive code in time.

Pokemon GO Fans Mock 10 Poke Ball Giveaway

In an offer that has since expired, Pokemon GO gave away 10 Poke Balls to help players catch Skorupi and other Bug/Poison Pokemon during yesterday’s Incense Day.

The Poke Ball redemption code (AFW7VPNZNLQHV4Q) appears to have expired at the end of the event, which was less than 6 hours after it went live.

Reports from players indicate that it wasn’t able to be redeemed 9 hours after the time of posting.

Niantic didn’t give players much of an opportunity to take advantage of the generous offer, but many users suggest they didn’t bother redeeming it at all.

Of course, players in rural areas may actually appreciate the offer of some free Poke Balls. But for those who live in more populated areas, it might actually be faster to spin two or three Poke Stops than to redeem the code.

And to have that same code expire only hours later, while some time zones are completely asleep, just seems needlessly cruel.

For those who don’t want to miss out on the freebies, we suggest turning on notifications for the Pokemon GO social media channels.
