Many Pokemon GO players have got a confusing notification on their phone that simply says ‘Shiny Mew?’ next to a pair of eyes emoji.
While most in-game messages from Pokemon GO are pretty unimportant and can be ignored, even just the mention of shiny Mew is enough to get any Pokemon trainer excited. After all, it is one of the rarest Pokemon in the game!
But what does this notification mean, and why have so many players been getting it?
What Does the Shiny Mew Notification Message Mean?
The Pokemon GO notification saying ‘Shiny Mew?’ is simply a cryptic reminder for players that the All-in-One #151 Special Research Story is available to purchase in the in-game shop.
This ticketed Research is the only way to catch shiny Mew in Pokemon GO. Luckily, it has returned to the shop for the first time in over two years.
As this mysterious notification is just a reminder to buy something from the shop, many Pokemon GO players are underwhelmed.

Sometimes Pokemon GO notifies you if a Pokemon you haven’t caught before is nearby. Therefore, players who got this notification may have hoped that shiny Mew was out in the wild!
Of course, even if you can’t stumble upon shiny Mew when out and about, you could opt to purchase the All-in-One #151 Special Research Story if you want to catch it. This ticket is on sale for $5 (or local currency equivalent) until 8 PM local time on July 12, 2023.
Just remember that as this is Masterwork Research, it will take at least a couple of months to complete!
