Shadow Lugia is returning to Pokemon GO once again but fans are demanding the inclusion of Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness’ Lugia variant.

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is a fan-favorite game for many reasons, but one of the most iconic aspects of the title is its unique take on a beloved legendary.

Shadow Lugia from Gale of Darkness is a never-seen-before (and rarely referenced since) form of Lugia, known as the ultimate Shadow Pokemon.

Corrupted by criminal organization Cipher, this Lugia’s appearance is completely different from other Shadow Pokemon, and its inclusion in Pokemon GO is being demanded by fans of the mobile game.

Pokemon GO fans are once again requesting that Gale of Darkness’ take on Shadow Lugia be added to the game.

After all, many users point out that we got Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon GO, a reference to the ‘Pokemon: The First Movie.’

And if we can get one unique form of a legendary, surely Niantic can add another.

That said, it’s worth noting that a unique Shadow Mewtwo also exists as part of the cast of Pokken Tournament, the Pokemon fighting game.

But it seems that these special Shadow forms are fated to only appear in their debut titles and never resurface again.

It’s not just Niantic that’s unwilling to acknowledge this Shadow Lugia form, either. The unique Pokemon has gone largely without mention in any media since the original game’s release in 2005.

Some fans speculate that perhaps this indicates that there’s some licensing issue with Shadow Lugia’s Gale of Darkness form. After all, both the title and its predecessor, Colosseum, were developed by Genius Sonority and have rarely been referenced since.

But with Pokemon GO being one of the few games to actually re-introduce Shadow Pokemon, we’d have thought Shadow Lugia’s inclusion would be a no-brainer.

Hopefully, Niantic is simply saving this definite money-maker for a rainy day.
