If you want to take part in Raids in Pokemon GO, they’ll cost you. Thankfully, you don’t have to pay using PokeCoins, but you will have to use up a precious Raid Pass.

There are a few types of Raid Passes in Pokemon GO, each with slightly different uses so you’ll need to know your Remote Raid Pass from Premium Battle Pass before you get Raiding.

What are Raid Passes in Pokemon GO?

Raid Passes are items in Pokemon GO that let you take part in Pokemon Raids. You will need to use a Raid Pass every time you want to join a Raid.

To press the ‘Battle’ button and get into a Raid Lobby, you’ll need to have a Raid Pass of some kind in your Item Bag. However, if you change your mind and back out before the Raid begins, your Raid Pass will not be used up.

There are 2 different kinds of Raid Pass as well as a Premium Battle Pass that can all be used for Raiding in Pokemon GO.

All of these passes let Pokemon trainers join Raids, however, they all work slightly differently and can be obtained in different ways.

How to Use Raid Passes

Raid Passes are used to take part in Raids:

  • Walk up to a Gym with an active Raid and click on it.
    • You can tell if a Gym has an active Raid if there
  • On the screen showing the Raid boss, press ‘Battle’
  • This will use up your Raid Pass and put you into the Raid Lobby

Where to Get Raid Passes in Pokemon GO

You can get one Raid Pass per day by spinning a Gym. However, you can only hold one at a time.

Sometimes Pokemon GO events like Community Days will let you collect more than one Raid Pass per day.

How to Use Remote Raid Passes

Remote Raid Passes let players take part in a Raid at a PokeStop far away. To use them:

  • Find a Raid remotely. You can do this by:
    1. Being invited to a Raid by a friend
    2. Pressing ‘View’ on a Raid found in the ‘Nearby Raid’ tab (the white box in the bottom right corner of your screen)
  • Press the ‘Battle’ button to use up your Remote Raid Pass and join the Raid Party

Remote Raid Passes can be bought from the Item Shop for 100 PokeCoins each or 300 for a bundle of 3.

How to Use Premium Battle Passes

Premium Battle Passes have two uses in Pokemon GO:

  1. Spent in place of a Raid Pass when joining in-person Raids if you don’t have a Raid Pass.
  2. Use a Premium Battle Pass in the GO Battle League to get access to the Premium Rewards Track instead of the Standard Rewards Track.
