Pokémon Go New Year’s Event – How to Get Costumed Pokémon

Pokémon Go is celebrating New Year’s by dressing up some of your favorite Pokémon.

Like most Pokémon Go events, there will be exclusive field research tasks and variants of Pokémon to find and evolve. There will also be special bonuses for players who play over the New Year period.

This is just the latest good news for Pokémon fans this week. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes could be announced very soon.

When is the Pokémon Go New Year’s Event?

The Pokémon Go New Year’s event will start on December 21st at 10PM local time. It’ll run throughout the New Year weekend until January 4th, also at 10PM local time.

As part of the event, players will also get a few bonuses. There will be double stardust and candy for hatching eggs and eggs will also hatch in half the distance.

What Exclusive Pokémon are there?

Players can get a shiny Pichu, wearing a celebratory New Year’s hat from hatching 2km eggs over the Pokémon Go event. A shiny variant of Wynaut also has a rare chance of hatching from the eggs.

Along with Pichu being in eggs, players will also be able to catch the hat-sporting New Year Pikachu in the wild. This can then be evolved into Raichu, who is also wearing a lovely purple hat.

Slowpoke is also dressed for the occasion. You’ll find a seasonal variant of the Pokémon wearing special 2020 glasses.

Be prepared to catch a load of them if you want Slowpoke to stay relevant in the next year though. Evolving the Pokémon into a Slowbro will change the New Year’s glasses to 2021.

Completed field research tasks also come with a chance to encounter Party Hat Eevee. They’ll fit right in with the other Pokémon in fancy dress.

Pokémon might be more than just a fun game. A student has managed to pay his college bills by selling Pokémon cards.

Nintendo fans are also excited now that the 2021 plans for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have finally been revealed.

There is also a new Pokémon movie that sheds light on Ash Ketchum’s father. Hopefully, Pokémon fans will be able to see it on the big screen in 2021.
