Pokemon GO: Mewtwo Raid Guide – Counters & Weaknesses

Mewtwo is returning to raids in Pokemon GO! read our guide to know which types to use & the moves Mewtwo has once caught!

Mewtwo is coming back to raids from June 16 – July 1! Players will be able to catch two versions during this time which each knows a specific Charged Attack.

If caught between June 16 and June 23, this Pokemon will know the move Shadow Ball. If caught from June 23 – July 1 it will know Psystrike.

Best Counters To Mewtwo

Mewtwo Type Weaknesses

Mewtwo is a pure Psychic Pokemon. This means that it’s pretty easy to counter! There are 3 types that are super-effective against Psychic types. These are:

  • Bug
  • Ghost
  • Dark

Using Pokemon of these types will make it easy to take down the raid boss quickly! Moves of these types will deal 160% damage!

However, there are 2 types that Psychic types such as Mewtwo are strong against. Try to avoid using:

  • Fighting
  • Psychic

As damage done by these types of moves will be reduced to 63%

Stats And Moves

For shiny hunting players, Mewtwo is a perfect challenge as it has a small chance to be shiny! Furthermore, it has some good stats! Its stats are the following:

  • Attack: 300
  • Stamina: 214
  • Defense: 182

As such it’s in attacking that this Pokemon shines – its move pool reflects this with the wide variety it has access to!

Fast Moves:

  • Psycho Cut (Psychic)*
  • Confusion (Psychic)*

Charged Moves:

  • Flamethrower (Fire)
  • Ice Beam (Ice)
  • Thunderbolt (Electric)
  • Psychic (Psychic)*
  • Focus Blast (Fighting)
  • Shadow Ball (Ghost) (Can be taught through an Elite TM or by catching Mewtwo during June 16 – June 23)
  • Hyper Beam (Normal) (Can be taught through an Elite TM)
  • Psystrike (Psychic) (Can be taught through an Elite TM or by catching Mewtwo during June 23 – July 1)
