Detective Pikachu is finally returning to Pokemon GO, and there are plenty of ways to get one!
Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat initially came to Pokemon GO back in 2019, to tie in with the Detective Pikachu movie. However, since then, it has not been available to catch.
Fortunately, this costumed Pikachu is coming back to Pokemon GO in the Detective Pikachu Returns event, and there are a number of ways to get one!
How to Get Detective Pikachu in Pokemon GO
There are three ways to get Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat during the Pokemon GO Detective Pikachu Returns event:
- Find and catch a wild Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat
- Encounter Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat from a Surprise Snapshot and catch it
- Earn an encounter with Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat from the Detective Pikachu Timed Research
1. Find a Wild Detective Pikachu
Throughout the Detective Pikachu Returns event, Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat will be a common wild spawn.
This means that it should be very easy to track one down, especially if you keep an eye on the nearby Pokemon tab!
2. Encounter Pikachu Wearing a Detective Hat from a Surprise Snapshot
Whenever you take a snapshot of a Pokemon during the Detective Pikachu Returns event, there’s a chance that Pikachu Wearing a Detective Hat will photobomb your snapshot.
This will cause this costumed Pikachu to appear on the map, and let you catch it!
You can only encounter a Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat once per day from Surprise Snaphot encounters during the Detective Pikachu Returns event.
As the event is running for 5 days, this means that you can get 5 of these costumed Pikachu via this method.
3. Earn an Encounter with Detective Pikachu from the Detective Pikachu Returns Timed Research
By completing the Detective Pikachu Returns event Timed Research, you will earn a guaranteed encounter with the costumed Pikachu wearing a Detective Hat.
This Timed Research must be completed before the event ends at 8 PM local time on October 9, 2023.
Can Detective Hat Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokemon GO?
Yes, Detective Hat Piakchu can be shiny in Pokemon GO, but the odds are very low.
There is a 0.2%, or 1 in 500, chance of any Pikachu you encounter in Pokemon GO being shiny. This includes Detective Pikachu.
Just like all shiny Pikachu, the shiny version of Detective Pikachu is a slightly darker yellow color.
How to Get Raichu Wearing a Detective Hat in Pokemon GO
The only way to get Raichu wearing a Detective Hat is by evolving a Pikachu that is wearing a Detective Hat.
This evolution requires 50 Pikachu Candy, the same amount as evolving the non-costumed version of Pikachu into Raichu.
