The latest Pokemon GO event, Catch Mastery: Ice, features three Ice-type Pokemon and will test your Poke Ball throwing accuracy!

To celebrate the addition of shiny Cryogonal to the game, Pokemon GO is holding an event about catching Ice-types.

Three Ice-type Pokemon will be featured in the catch Mastery: Ice event, with two of them spawning in the wild and Cryogonal available through both Field Research and Timed Research.

Here’s are full rundown of everything you need to know!

Catch Mastery: Ice Date & Time

The Catch Mastery: Ice event in Pokemon GO is running from 10 AM to 8 PM local time on Sunday, December 12, 2023.

This gives players 10 hours to catch as many of the three featured Ice-type Pokemon as possible and, hopefully, find the shiny versions of each of them too!

Event Bonuses

The following bonuses will be active during Catch Mastery: Ice

  • Increased chance of catching the shiny versions of the following Pokemon:
    • Snorunt
    • Bergmite
    • Cryogonal
  • 2x XP for catching Pokemon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws

While the increased shiny odds have not been revealed, we expect them to be either 1/128 or 1/64. This is because the standard shiny odds for these Pokemon are 1/500.

Wild Spawns

Only two Pokemon will be spawning in the wild more frequently during the Catch Mastery: Ice event. They are:

  • Snorunt
  • Bergmite

Additionally, the shiny versions of both of these Pokemon will be available to catch!

Field Research

During the Catch Mastery: Ice event, Pokemon GO players will be able to pick up Field Research Tasks to do with Poke Ball-throwing accuracy. These Tasks will likely require getting Great or Excellent Throws.

Additionally, for completing the Field Research, you can earn encounters with Cryogonal!

Timed Research

The free Timed Research in the Catch Mastery: Ice event requires catching Ice-type Pokemon. There are 10 sets of Research Tasks in this, and up to 40 encounters with Cryogonal are up for grabs if you complete them all!

This is perfect for players who are after the brand-new shiny Crogonal.

For $2 (or local currency equivalent), players can purchase another copy of this Research. This means that another 40 Cryogonal encounters can be earned by completing this alongside the free Timed Research, for a total of 80!
