Best Pokemon GO Team for May 2022 – Strongest Pokemon for Raid Battles

Find out the best Pokemon GO team to take on raid battles this May!

May is here, and Pokemon GO is more exciting than ever! From the Air Adventures Event to Mega Latias and Mega Latios arriving in raids, there are lots of things to enjoy!

With so many new Pokemon debuting in the game, it’s difficult to decide which ‘Mon to train up. After all, Stardust is hard to earn.

Thankfully, we’ve got you covered. Read on for our guide for the strongest Pokemon for raid battles in Pokemon GO!

Best Pokemon GO Team for Raid Battles May 2022

A Roserade is dancing happily with pink petals swirling around it.

Roserade is a special kind of dual-typed Pokemon, because it’s equally great no matter which type it chooses to attack with. It’s among the game’s strongest Grass-type AND Poison-type attackers!

Roserade has well-balanced stats all around, with a particularly high attack. This means if you’re taking on a raid that has a Grass or Poison-type weakness, Roserade is often one of the very best choices!

While Roserade is an excellent Grass-type attacker, our recommended moveset focuses on its Poison-type moves. This is because it has less competition as a Poison-type attacker, and lots of raid bosses are Fairy-types, meaning they’re weak to Poison.

Our recommended moveset for Roserade is as follows:

  • Fast Move: Poison Jab
  • Charged Moves: Sludge Bomb, Grass Knot

Tapu Bulu

The legendary Pokemon Tapu Bulu floats menacingly in the air.

Tapu Bulu is the most recent guardian deity Pokemon that’s featured in raids. If you were lucky enough to catch one, then you’re in luck, as it’s one of the best Grass-type attackers in the game!

Tapu Bulu rises above most Grass-type Pokemon as it has huge attack and defense. While most Grass-types excel in one or the other, Tapu Bulu really is the best of both worlds!

As Tapu Bulu will be returning to raids at the end of the month, check out our Tapu Bulu raid guide for all the best ‘Mon to use!

While Tapu Bulu requires huge amounts of Candy to unlock its second Charged move, the good news is that it doesn’t need to! The only moves it needs to be one of the best Grass-type attackers are the ones recommended below:

  • Fast Move: Bullet Seed
  • Charged Moves: Grass Knot

A Togekiss is flying swiftly through the air.

Fairy is a great type to use in raid battles. Not only does it boast lots of useful resistances, but being able to hit both Dragon and Fighting-type Pokemon super effectively is excellent!

Togekiss is one of the best Fairy-type attackers out there. That’s because it learns the two best Fairy-type moves in the game for raids: Charm and Dazzling Gleam.

If you’re looking for a strong Fairy-type to add to your best Pokemon GO team for raid battles, then Togekiss is your best option!

If you’ve hatched a Togepi in Spring Into Spring event, now’s your chance to train a powerful Togekiss! Don’t forget that if you teach Togepi a second Charged move before evolving, it will cost less Stardust!

Here’s our recommended moveset for Togekiss:

  • Fast Move: Charm
  • Charged Moves: Dazzling Gleam, Flamethrower

A Primarina is posing dramatically, getting ready to unleash a powerful attack.

Primarina is an excellent Water / Fairy-type Pokemon that’s a fantastic option to use in raids. Its pre-evolution Popplio is a decently common spawn at the moment – most trainers will have caught one back in the Welcome to Alola event!

Primarina has excellent all-around stats, with an emphasis on high attack. It learns powerful Water and Fairy attacks, meaning it can work well in raids that are weak to either type!

While Primarina may not be the #1 Water or Fairy attacker, its unique dual-typed role means it’s highly recommended to train at least one! Plus, Popplio is a fairly common spawn, meaning it’s easy to get Candy for powering up!

Interestingly, it seems likely that Primarina will get a community day event in the future. This will help it learn Hydro Cannon, making it an even better Water-type attacker!

If you want to use Primarina as a Water-type attacker, we recommend the following moveset:

  • Fast Move: Waterfall
  • Charged Moves: Hydro Pump, Moonblast

However, if you want to use Primarina as a Fairy-type attacker, the following moveset is better. Primarina is a great option for taking on Mega Latias and Mega Latios raids!

  • Fast Move: Charm
  • Charged Moves: Moonblast, Psychic

A Glaceon is crouched defensively.

Every trainer needs at least one strong Ice-type ‘Mon on their team. Ice attacks hit many popular types for super-effective damage, including Dragon and Flying.

While some Ice-type Pokemon only appear in the winter, Glaceon is one of the strongest Ice-types and you can get one all year round! Check our guide to get every Eevee evolution to get this powerful Pokemon for yourself!

Glaceon learns the powerful Charged move Avalanche, which is considered by some to be the best Ice-type attack in the game. This means Glaceon will always be one of the best choices in any raid weak to Ice!

Similar to Tapu Bulu, Glaceon only needs one Charged move to succeed. This is our recommended Glaceon moveset:

  • Fast Move: Frost Breath
  • Charged Moves: Avalanche

Mega Pidgeot

A huge Mega Pidgeot hovers threateningly in the sky, ready to swoop down.

The recent Mega system changes in Pokemon GO have made it easier than ever before to use Mega Pokemon in your battle team. One mega ‘Mon that comes highly recommended is Mega Pidgeot!

Mega Pidgeot is, without a doubt, the strongest Flying-type Pokemon in the game. Plus, it only requires 100 Mega Energy to Mega Evolve for the first time!

If you’ve got a Mega Pidgeot as part of the best Kanto Cup battle team, then you’re in luck! It’s worth using an Elite Fast TM to teach it Gust, as this is its strongest Fast move.

Here’s our recommended Mega Pidgeot moveset to use in battle! Don’t forget to check out our Mega Pidgeot raid guide to catch one for yourself!

  • Fast Move: Gust
  • Charged Moves: Brave Bird, Aerial Ace
Flying Pikachu in Pokemon GO
