Pokémon GO developer Niantic is giving players the chance to become an official in-game trainer, in a new contest.
If you’ve ever wanted to be immortalized in gaming history, this could be your chance. Niantic is giving 8 Pokémon GO fans the chance to become an in-game trainer in its latest competition.
All those fans who grew up wanting to be a Pokémon trainer can finally see those dreams realized. To take part, all you need to do is pick out your perfect Pokémon GO team and dress up your avatar.
Niantic will be picking 8 trainers to feature in its latest Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event. The developer wants to see how users express themselves through Pokémon and is giving lucky players a chance to battle all around the world.
Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto Event – How to Become an In-Game Trainer
The upcoming Pokémon GO event will feature special trainer battles, and Timed Research challenges. But what’s interesting about the event is that the trainers will be real members of the Pokémon GO community.
Each one of the 8 expert trainers will be selected by Niantic itself. To be in with a chance of being picked as a Pokémon GO trainer, here’s what you’ve got to do:
- Post a screenshot to Twitter by Monday, January 11, 2021, at 11:59 PM PST containing your Trainer Profile. This should show off both your name and avatar’s outfit.
- List 3 Pokémon that you would choose for your dream team. However, these Pokémon must be ones native to the original Kanto region. They also can’t include Ditto or any Legendary or Mythical Pokémon.
- Use the hashtag #PokémonGOTourContest
According to a recent Niantic blog post, the developer is looking for overall outfit creativity, theme, and a good Pokémon team composition.
Here’s what advice Niantic has for aspiring Pokémon trainers:
“Try giving yourself a theme, like a cool and dynamic Electric-type Trainer or a fluid and powerful Water-type Trainer. Maybe you want to show off that you’re on Team Instinct, Team Mystic, or Team Valor? The possibilities are endless—this is your chance to make your mark on Pokémon GO, so have fun with your Trainer character’s design!”
